Slow burn

This story is a solid effort of storytelling and world building. The FMC is not as black and white as some other books I’ve read and I like that. Silla is just trying to survive and winds up being a wrecking ball to those around her. It ended with a perfect set up for book 2, which I’m eagerly awaiting. This first book is a sloooow burn for not only the romance, (which there’s a good twist), but also the world building and magic.

Engrossing story

Despite employing one of my least favorite tropes, Demi wrote one heck of a story with truly exceptional pacing.
It does suffer from the same ailment as most series in that it feels unfinished and the ending left me unsatisfied. Too much perhaps is being held back for the future installments. But what is here is both rich and fun.
And referring to Rey’s horse as “Horse” never stops being funny.

Good Read

I really enjoyed the story line and the characters, the narrator was great, my only annoyance was how some words were pronounced, like Passage was pronounced Par-sarg.. not sure why considering the narrator is English.

The Road of Bones

it was fast moving and the development of the main character was excellent. I appreciated how the author developed the other characters personalities and why said personalities were the way they were. Lots of surprises and plot twists!

Peak-y audio does a disservice to the story

I adored this story and did finish it, though. I had a rough time listening to some of the audio. Not sure why so many audiobook producers forget to fix the peaky British narrators.
