I have tried everything imaginable to cure my insomnia and was very skeptic that this book and it’s general premise of simply changing how I think about my problem could ‘cure’ me. I combined listening to it with the Sleep School App and I’m only a week into the 30 day course and I am absolutely gob smacked - after a couple of years of being unable to sleep without medication and other props I am sleeping totally normally. It feels like a miracle!

Acceptance and Commitment is working for me. I love the Sleep School meditations that accompany the app. Dr. Meadows voice will put you in a trance.
The app requires you to join the Sleep School for one year and costs about $40. Well worth it to me!

This book made my insomnia worse! I used to not panic when I couldn't sleep. I would leave the room, do a thing or two, come back. The book however insistently recommends not leaving the bed, and staying awake as long as it takes. That's sick! Now, I feel more anxious both if I leave the room and if I stay.

Beware!

The overall message is a good one: behave like a normal sleeper and break out from your before-bed routines. For me not doing anything therefore became the goal. So I have a few mixed feelings about this. Some activities are relaxing and prepare your brain to relax, creating a reflex. Also, check with your neurologist if your insomnia is in any way related to your body/nervous system, rather the uncontrollable thoughts at night. For me, it turned out I do not have a proper positioning of the spine - which in turn affects my blood flow to the brain and my ability to fully relax before sleep.

Good book
