Jerry "Boogie" McCain was one of the last of the old Blues Musicians. He had three ways he could kill you. The best was with that blues harp. You don't want to know about the other two. I was fortunate enough to live in the same town as him and to talk with him just weeks before he died. This is what I know of him, and of his life, death, and funeral. I went to the funeral, and followed him all the way to his last resting place. By doing so I was present when the most important thing about Boogie was made known

In Alabama, there is only one person greater than "The Bear." That's JC himself. And although the legend has now been dead thirty years this year, he still has tremendous power over people - even non-believers. Even when they're not awake. I was one of them. A non-believer. Until he straightened me out in the strangest way.

This is a horrible, true story. One person called it "gruesome". I agree with that statement. It is a story not for the faint of heart. Turn back now, if that is you. What it really is though, is a strong dose of reality. Not of just how frail life is and how quickly and horribly it can end, but also of how cold and inhumane people can be to each other. People in both low and high positions. You have been warned. I have told this story as I have heard it. All names have been changed except my own.
