Publisher's summary
Rock and roll in the BC (Before Cooper) era was a tamer, milder world. In Who I Really Am, Cooper’s latest addition to Audible’s Words + Music series, we learn how the boa-wearing (not the feathered kind) maestro arrived at a show and sound - let’s call it AC for After Cooper - that has entertained millions of kids while terrifying parents in equal measure. Cooper drew inspiration from Saturday matinee horror movies, applied a "no such thing as too much" attitude, and hitched it to a kick-ass rock and roll band. The shows were incredible, but the offstage antics might have been even more entertaining. Cooper generously shares you-had-to-be-there tales of the band’s early days in Hollywood and mythic all-nighters with rock’s premier luminaries. Also included are new recordings of the hits “I'm Eighteen”, “School’s Out”, and “Poison". Not many artists can claim credit for creating an entire style or genre. Don’t miss the chance to hear a consummate showman reveal that storytelling might be his greatest talent of all.

People ask me how come I'm still alive, and I don't know what to say. When I was growing up, if you'd have put me up against a wall with the other kids from my street and asked me which one of us was gonna make it to the age of 60, with five kids and four grandkids and houses in Buckinghamshire and California, I wouldn't have put money on me, no f--king way. But here I am: ready to tell my story, in my own words, for the first time. A lot of it ain't gonna be pretty. I've done some bad things in my time. But I ain't the devil.

Story
With over 70 million records sold, Black Sabbath, dubbed by Rolling Stone “the Beatles of heavy metal,” helped create the genre itself, with their distinctive heavy riffs, tuned down guitars, and apocalyptic lyrics. Bassist and primary lyricist Geezer Butler played a gigantic part in the band’s renown, from suggesting the band name to using his fascination with horror, religion, and the occult to compose the lyrics and build the foundation of heavy metal as we know it. In Into the Void, Butler tells his side of the story.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

What would happen if a shy introvert lived like a gregarious extrovert for one year? If she knowingly and willingly put herself in perilous social situations that she’d normally avoid at all costs? Writer Jessica Pan intends to find out. With the help of various extrovert mentors, Jessica sets up a series of personal challenges (talk to strangers, perform stand-up comedy, host a dinner party, travel alone, make friends on the road, and much, much worse) to explore whether living like an extrovert can teach her lessons that might improve the quality of her life.

Story
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

In weeks after the September 11 attacks, 18-year-old Mansoor Adayfi was kidnapped by Afghan militia and sold to US forces for bounty money. After months of interrogations, he was sent to the US military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, as one of its first prisoners. Like the nearly 800 other men imprisoned at Guantanamo, Adayfi didn’t know why he was imprisoned or for how long. He had never seen a skyscraper and couldn’t imagine what the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center looked like, much less how they were destroyed.

Perfectly Alice Cooper
Having been a ling time fan, but never closely followed Alice Cooper, this was an enlightening experience, I love him more than ever after listening to this. I totally get why so many reviews say they wish it was longer. God is so awesome. I’m glad Alice is still around and performing for us. He is an inspiration. So glad I took the time to listen to his story. Not enough stars available to express how much I enjoyed it.

Great history and backstory of rock ‘n’ roll
I enjoyed this so much! The history, backstory and all the amazing experiences that Alice Cooper had in his childhood. Hearing about all the legendary people he came in contact with and his whole thought process was so interesting to hear. I’ve been in recovery also, so hearing about his relapses but struggle to always look out for his family and be there for his wife and get his life back in order was so inspiring to hear. Not all of us with addictions make it, so to hear that he’s got a lot of days behind him was so great to hear.

Thank You
Really enjoyed it. You sound great. You sound BadAss . You sound Human! It was a thrill to get to know you and I believe you. Thanks for this! My Mother saw you Live in the early 70’s… she’s the best person I’ve ever known. I hadn’t listened to your music before this , until I realized I’ve heard so many of your songs. You and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers blew my mind as a musician after I had grown up learning to play guitar influenced by The Dave Mathew’s Band , John Mayer and the counting crows. I knew of you but Marylin Manson was “The Evil” scary entertainer of my Generation…. It’s been obvious to me for many years he wouldn’t exist without what you did for music . Thanks again!

Who he really is…
Is an honest guy who returned to his roots— but he lived a hell of a ride, along the way. I can remember singing “Schools Out” on the last day of school, in the back of the bus for probably six years of my childhood and adolescence! I was not an Alice Cooper fan then, but I am now! An enthralling read, and an even better listen

Flipping amazing!!!
OHMYGAWD!!! I have always loved Alice Cooper but his book has taken me to a whole new level of respect for him!!! I have always heard he is an amazing man to meet. To hear his story is beyond words!!! Thank you Alice Cooper for sharing your life with the world, and for inspiring me, that even when the world is rough, stay positive, keep reaching for those dreams and to keep my faith in god!
