Publisher's summary

On the 10th anniversary of a profound loss, comedian Michael Cruz Kayne felt compelled to describe his feelings of grief in 140 characters or less. Much to his surprise, more than 200,000 people responded in solidarity from all corners of the globe. Overwhelmed by the response, the Late Show with Stephen Colbert writer and host of A Good Cry created Sorry for Your Loss, a sidesplitting, heartrending look at life—and death. This powerfully personal production, recorded live from the Minetta Lane Theatre, cuts through the platitudes, directly reaching out to anyone who has ever experienced loss—or will. So...everyone.

Now available in Dolby Atmos on Audible.

you will laugh and ugly cry at the same time

A comedy show about grief? I’m in!

I found this Audible Original, narrated by the comedian Michael Cruz Kayne, to be helpful to me. For those touched (or pounded) by grief after the death of a loved one, this audio allows you to feel your profound loss.

Mr. Kayne lost one of his sons when he was 35 days old. The son was a twin. Kayne, miraculously in 1 ½ hours, gives a comedy routine that leaves you simultaneously laughing and ugly crying. How can a parent survive such a tremendous loss? He shows the contradictions of love and loss. By the way, he blames science for screwing up the grief process. Kayne states that you think things can be one way but they can also be another way. How to keep your loved one alive? How to get through grief? How to laugh when all you want to do is sob.

Feel a bit stuck in grief? Somewhat unhinged? Well, this audio short helped me. It’s brilliant. Saying that, I am a person who appreciates humor and wit when processing any loss. Not sure if everyone is like me. Oh, and trigger warning, beyond the obvious (death), there are a few F-bombs! Didn’t distract for me because it wasn’t like a Chris Rock routine, just a sprinkling here and there. It’s comedy! I expect some 🌶️ language.

Beautiful and sad and funny

He has a wonderful way of guiding us through the darkness that no one wants to go through. It is such a beautiful gift to be able to honor his son and hold others as they navigate grief and loss. And he’s funny!

An unexpected joy

How can a father talking about his grief be a joy? I learned that the pain and questioning when a loved one dies is not mine alone. And that laughter afterwards is not unattainable, given time. It brings me joy to relearn, through Michael's show here, how precious my loved ones are to me. Thanks, Michael.

SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS HAD ME

Michael Cruz Kayne warms my soul with his heartfelt & comedic journey that tackles one of the toughest topics to address - grief. Intensely personal; he tackles this subject elegantly in way that has you laughing out loud and at times holding back tears. I commend his bravery and applaud this performance. Five stars across the board.

A beautiful stand up comedy about real loss

There are funny parts to this listen. I found it entertaining. I love this author's articulate take on life to help relate to profound loss and grief. It helps me to put into words things I have felt, but also smiles along the way. Some Rated R bits.

Outstanding

The performance is funny and sad at the same time. It is said that humour is a good way to deal with grief and it is a sign of healing. If you are suffering as well, I hope that you find peace and solace in this recording. Be a particle, and be a wave.
