Publisher's summary

The final book in the thrilling Death and the Devil series. Ethan is finally free. He’s left the Cabal behind and embraced a civilian life with Jack, the man he loves. The only problem is that the Cabal isn’t willing to let him go. A call in the middle of the night and a threat to Jack’s family, and Ethan is back in the game. The only way out is to take on the organization that spent years warping his life.

Jack’s boyfriend has a way of vanishing on him, but this time Ethan’s disappearance is more frightening than ever. A trail of mysterious clues, a hit against his family, and the handprint of the Cabal on everything mean the greatest test of love and determination Jack has ever endured.

Torn apart by forces greater than they are, Jack and Ethan must fight harrowing battles to get back to each other. The Cabal is the greatest foe either of them has had to face. Ethan is willing to throw away everything to bring an end to the Cabal’s evil. And Jack is willing to do the same to make sure Ethan comes out the other side alive.

It’s Over…and I have mixed feelings

Jack and Ethan went through more angst and physical pain than any two people should, but they survived. This is such a good series. If these two have another adventure together, I’ll happily read about it.

If they do, Ethan needs a new implant so he and Jack can talk dirty to each other without anyone else knowing.

And the narration—let’s just say I slowed it to 0.9 speed because his voice is still incredible and you get an extra 1.3 hours of listening to it.

Solid ending to a great series

Overall, this was a great series and I enjoyed it. It got a little long and I became a little tired of the plot. Would’ve enjoyed more about the relationship but that’s just me. Excellent narration.

Superb all around

I’d read the books and this one was a great ending to the series. It’s filled with everything to keep you interested and invested in the characters.
Also the narrator is top notch! Looking forward to hear more from the author and narrator.

Fantastic conclusion to a fantastic series!

Is it odd that a series about two very damaged characters getting into dangerous situations counts among my comfort reads? Well, it does.

These books have well-paced suspense and action that doesn't ever feel like an afterthought to the romance. The romance is just as suspenseful, as we watch two grown men with a lot of baggage allowing each other into their lives. Jack and Ethan are far from perfect people, and they both make mistakes - which makes their determination to be together all the sweeter.

The narration is great, giving both men a distinctive voice filled with emotion. It took me a double-take second to get used to the fact that the narration switches between their British and Australian accents outside of the dialogue as well, depending on whose POV is being described. But it works well. I also appreciate that the female characters sound good.

If you like spy thrillers, but with a meaningful romance and without the misogyny, this series is for you.
