Publisher's summary

Janie Morgan is 22, petite, has red hair, and a temper to match. Although she had a few boyfriends, she is a bit old-fashioned—saving herself for her husband. She has always had a love for animals, and although her father is the town vet, she didn’t want to follow in her father’s footsteps. When her grandmother dies and leaves her some money, she buys a small farm and opens her own animal rescue center. When her father decides to retire, he tells Janie that he has hired someone to take his place, and Janie is reluctant to have to work with a new vet.

Paul Henson just graduated from veterinary school and is excited about his new job: a vet working in a small town. At six foot three, and very handsome, he had just gone through a bad breakup with his girlfriend, who was supposedly the love of his life.

When the two of them meet, there is an instant attraction, and Janie gives herself to Paul, willingly thinking her search for the perfect man is over, and plans to spend the rest of her life with him.

The arrival of another woman sends Janie’s world into a tailspin as she doubts that Paul’s love is real. As she struggles with her feelings, and finally confronts Paul, she discovers her doubts were all a misunderstanding. Making up, Janie and Paul pledge their love to each other once again, and just when Janie thought everything was on track, a message arrives, turning her perfect world upside down once again.

Emotional Romance with Hot Vet

I thought this would be a easy breezy vet romance and I didn't read about it prior. No, not really. This book starts out hot and heavy but there is a lot of drama and it's VERY emotional, especially towards the end. There is actually like a dual romance going on between 2 different couples. A lot happens in these books. Very unexpected but great! You should give it a listen.

romantic comedy

This is a 4 in 1 bundle, each story is short, just over 4 hours in total. it feels more like separate chapters than separate books. I really enjoyed listening to the life and adventures in this romantic comedy. I would be interested in additional stories with these characters.

Fulfilling Dreams

Janie Morgan has always loved animals and helps her father in his veterinary clinic. Although she doesn’t want to be a vet, she would like to one day open a rescue center for abused, neglected, injured, and homeless animals. Her grandmother leaves her an inheritance that makes that dream possible and she sets up her business next door to her father. When he retires, he sells his practice to Dr. Paul Henson. Janie and Paul start a relationship, bonded by their love for animals, but someone from Paul’s past arrives. Will Paige be an obstacle for them? Can Paul and Janie resolve the tension? Or is something worse going to put them to the test?

The narrator for the audiobook is Sadie Alexa Knight. She does a fair job with the voices to make it easier for the listener to get an idea of what each character is like, even adding a few extra sound effects to go with the story. It sounded frequently that the narrator was holding back a chuckle or laugh, which was distracting. Nevertheless, an audiobook’s narrator can help to set the mood and is an enjoyable way to “read” and enjoy the book.

Paul and Janie

Janie's father is a veterinarian, and she assists him in his practice, she has always had a love for animals. She has no desire to be a vet but would rather open a safe haven for abused/neglected animals. She inherits some money which allows her to follow her dreams and opens next door to her father's practice.

When her dad wants to retire, he sells the practice to Paul Henson. The two enter a relationship but the road to happily ever after is not smooth.

The narrator did a decent job.

Janie and Paul

Book 1

When 2 animal loves meet and fall in love! But will a misunderstanding and stubborn pride keep them from the happily ever after?

No real cliff hanger, just a few questions left in the air.

Book 2

Will a few lies of omission keep Paul from life with love? Will Janies new tenant bring trouble in to their lives?

Major cliff hanger at the end. It should end with "bum bum buuummmm ...."

Book 3

So alot happens in this one. Grief over a tragedy, but the same lose can't happen twice right? I'm not super happy with the way depression was depicted in this one but she seems to learn from her mistakes by the end.

Another cliffhanger a head! Will Paul and Janie's life ever calm down?

Book 4

So this is the last of the series. But will they have their happy little family of 5 again? I don't like that she didnt learn from how she dealt with her depression before. She seemed so self aware. But while the ending for them is HEA, it takes a morbid turn. But you can't say it's predictable.

The complete story

This was a four book bundle of novellas that form a complete story. There are sex scenes sprinkled throughout so if that bothers you, skip this book. The story is good but some of the holes in the plot bothered me. The h's parents just completely disappear to travel the world. Spoiler alert: I also did not like how the author dealt with depression. She loses her baby, can't have more, goes into depression and then the H isn't having fun and thinks about breaking up? Later, they lose their foster kids, she's depressed, hallucinating the kids are still with them, but suddenly snaps out of it. In the end she apologizes for being depressed. The author needs to do more research on depression. She's clearly never dealt with it herself.

Vetted Passion

Not my favorite and it got hard to finish at the end. Get sad then the universe magically delivers the cure.

Umm, Just No on So Many Levels

This is the first book I have read (or rather, listened to) by this author, and unfortunately, I am not impressed. This supposedly four-book bundle is actually just one couple's story, providing one obstacle or hurdle they need to get past in each “book” as the relationship develops. In trying to make each “book” have its own story arc with a beginning, middle, and end and be somewhat standalone, the author takes a lot of shortcuts that make for an unsatisfying romantic read (i.e., listen) for me.

The story is in constant motion. There's a concept in writing called “scene and sequel.” I first read about it decades ago in Writer's Digest, and it's actually important in fiction writing for a story to feel satisfying. Basically, a story should not always go full steam ahead with action scene after action scene. There needs to be pause and reflection points, even if they're brief. They can be very short in action adventure books and quite long in romances These points are called sequel, and they rarely happen in this book bundle. Sequel is always needed to make a story feel satisfying, and even traumatic events in the book—like when the heroine, the hero, and one of his friends are tied up at gunpoint by the friend’s ex or when the heroine has a miscarriage—don't have these crucial sequel moments. The characters needed to explore what happened to them—even if they are in denial—and the author didn't let them do that.

The author just tells you that certain things happen; she doesn't show you. For instance, we are just told that after just a short amount of time (and with little interaction between them) that the heroine loves the hero. We don't see the romantic buildup at all. That's part of the fun of a romance!

The book has other issues as well. At the very start of the book, the heroine relates a traumatic sexual event when she was a teenager, after which she declared she would wait for marriage to have sex. But within a brief time of meeting the hero (a week or a few days), they are getting it on! And on a regular basis! The language is surprisingly crude in places, including f-bombs, given that the heroine had made such a vow of chastity. By the way, the author does not describe the intimate scenes in any sort of detail, so if you're hoping for a steamy romance, this isn't it.

The hero is certainly not swoon-worthy. The author calls him the hot veterinarian, but I didn't hear any physical description of him that would make me think so, and the way he often thought about the heroine didn't make him great hero material. At one point in the book, as she struggles in the aftermath of a miscarriage, he contemplates leaving her, even going so far as to search for a new place to live and a new veterinary practice. Not a good book boyfriend and not a good boyfriend!

The book also has what could be several triggers for readers. The book blurb at the review site where I picked this up didn't list them. So just to warn other readers, this book depicts scenes of violence against the heroine and other characters, a description of a past sexual assault, and a miscarriage that is featured prominently later in the books. If those might trigger you, I suggest skipping this book bundle.

Actually, this book is so poorly written that I wouldn't recommend this audiobook to people who love romance as I do.
