Publisher's Summary

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author Iris Johansen comes a explosive, compelling new thriller.

With his dying breath, Carl Venable, head of the CIA task force on terrorism and Jude Brandon's final link to terrorist ringleader Max Huber, gives Brandon a mandate: to keep his daughter, Rachel, safe at any cost. But Rachel Venable has a shocking, twisted past of her own, one that comes rushing back after her medical clinic in Guyana is attacked by Huber - the same man who murdered her father and kept her imprisoned for months.

Brandon and Catherine Ling, Rachel's longtime ally and fierce protector, are determined to keep Rachel out of danger, but she knows it's impossible to stay hidden when Max Huber wants you dead. As Rachel and Brandon race against the clock to bring Huber down before he can orchestrate a nuclear explosion that will lay waste to the West Coast, they also fight a growing attraction to each other - an attraction that could prove just as dangerous as Huber himself.

In this gripping, fast-paced novel full of dark secrets and tangled lies, one thing is clear: Everyone has a vendetta, and no one will rest until getting revenge.

Wanted to like it

I don’t know if it’s just the performance, slow beginning, or the whole package, but I couldn’t force myself to be interested beyond the first hour. I tried over different days/moods to see if it was just me. However, I just didn’t feel it worth delving further.

A terrific and exciting book

It should be classified as another Catherine Ling book, not Eve Duncan with only one sentence mentioning Eve & Joe. I really enjoyed hearing about Rachel Venable & Jude Brandon, hope there’s more with them. Also please give us more of Catherine & Richard Cameron, they could become such s great duo. Great narration by Elisabeth Rodgers. This book has lots of exciting twists & turns and left us wondering about Carl Venable. Until the next one I guess. Don’t miss out on a great book.

Always great! Thanks Iris

Excellent edge of the seat story. The story in complete, but some of the characters stories feels like there should be more. Maybe we will meet them again. (I hope) Elisabeth is delightful to listen to.

What a bore

This story could have been an excellent short story. The story is retold so many times I finally gave up and quit. The emotional characterizations were unrealistic and unbelievable.

Too much of women battling for control!

I have loved almost all of Iris Johansen's book but if this had not been an audiobook, I wouldn't have finished this one.
The plot/story line was OK but was totally overshadowed by the constant battling of women to be in control or trying to prove they can do things themselves rather than ask for or even accept help. I was really disappointed in Catherine Ling - I normally like the character but I found her unreasonable and just plain bitchy in this book.
If one could remove all of the power struggle dialog out of this book. it would be half the length. It just didn't seem very realistic and the dialog was repetitive and tiresome.
The reader did a fantastic job, as always.

Story good. Sappy conversations

The conversations were unrealistic and sappy for the events going on. Could of used less of these conversations during extremely stressful times
