Publisher's Summary

Drew is caught in a world of light - just inches away from the dark.

What if...there was a world beyond our vision, a world just fingertips beyond our reach? What if...our world wasn't beyond their influence?

Tragedy and heartache seem to be waiting for Drew Carter at every turn, but college offers Drew a chance to start over - until an accident during a physics experiment leaves him blind and his genius friend, Benjamin Berg, missing.

As his sight miraculously returns, Drew discovers that the accident has heightened his neuron activity, giving him skills and sight beyond the normal man. When he begins to observe fierce invaders that no one else can see, he questions his own sanity, and so do others. But is he insane or do the invaders truly exist?

With help from Sydney Carlyle, a mysterious and elusive girl who offers encouragement through her faith, Drew searches for his missing friend, Ben, who seems to hold the key to unlocking this mystery. As the dark invaders close in, will he find the truth in time?

I give it a 4.8

"Sorrow hanging heavy around the neck of his mind..." When I head this in the first few seconds of the book, I though, "Oh boy, here we go...." Fortunately, this was the only example of weird writing, the rest of the book was fine. As I got deeper into the work, I liked it more and more. The characters were appealing, and well-developed. The story line was very well done and had the right blend of action, intrigue and plot twists. I found myself not wanting to stop listening. There were a few minor flaws. At first, I thought I'd hate the female narrator. Very few people can actually pull off a southern accent without overdoing it. Being from the south, this is a pet peeve of mine. Most people I know don't talk like that. Her other voices, however, were quite good. I could do without all the sound effects. They were ok, but not really necessary. I also was a bit annoyed with the long pauses between chapters. I'm not sure what that was all about. Maybe they were trying to extend the book length. As the book neared the end, I found the interaction with the Light Invaders to become more and more interesting. I tried not to overthink the premise, but the influence of satanic forces on the human race, became more in focused in my mind as I listened. I plan on buying the rest of the series.

Princess Leia's Theme?!

The book has kind of a slow start, but it stays interesting, and once the action picks up it's pretty well done. For some reason, the sound design includes a leitmotif around all of the Christian characters that is a soft piano arrangement of Princess Leia's Theme from Star Wars. It's pretty, and it's not too distracting, but it took me most of the first book to put my finger on why it was so familiar 😂

good vs bad easily applied to real life

Football star turned into warrior; not my idea of great hero since I am a geek and having little interest in sports but still I can apply the insights into my own life. The battle scenes are well explained and interesting.

Amazing story with great characters!

Listen to the preview, you’ll want to listen to the whole thing. It has a good personal story and some science-fiction elements… It’s a great mix of different kinds of writing that will draw you in and I wouldn’t be surprised if you listened to the entire thing in one sitting.

Had our family riveted

Loved the storyline. Listen to it for hours and a Sunday afternoon and into the evening. Really bummed out that there’s a second book now I can’t wait to listen to that one too!

Great story can't wait to hear the next one

I loved the premise of the story, the spiritual world opening up to an unbeliever and what it looks like to him, it's about half way through before it really opens up and now can't wait to her the sequel. As close to the genius Frank peretti's this present darkness series as I've found
