When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

Publisher's Summary
The story that kicked off the international number one best-selling Vampire Academy series is now a major motion picture!
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school - it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic, and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now, they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s - the very place where they’re most in danger....
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi - the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires - make Lissa one of them forever.

Narrator is awful. They should re-record this book!
I’ve never written a review but this narrator was truly awful. She voiced every single female character as weak and child-like. She used simpering whiny voices for all the young (high school aged) female characters. It half ruined the entire book. Even the main characters who you could tell from the writing were supposed to be brave figures she voiced as cartoon damsels. It made all the characters seem extremely one dimensional and uninteresting which is a shame because the writing isn’t necessarily bad but it was hard to get past the performance. I’m honestly shocked whoever produced this approved this for release. They should 100% re-record it.

Love the novel—HORRIBLE narrators!!!!!!
I absolutely love this novel I have a tattoo on my neck just like Dimitri & Rose! This is one of my all-time favourites I highly recommend it sadly though the narrator is horrible! I do not know why the person is so terrible at trying different voices and making it cringe worthy at times because this truly is an awesome novel & series, but as far as audible goes I can’t give it a good score!!!! Read the book you won’t be disappointed I love it hopefully you will as wel!!!

Voices not lined up
Wish the voices were a little more in line with character description. Dimitri sounds like a American’s version of a 50 year old creepy Russian rather than a 20 something with a faint Russian accent. Lissa sounds like a whiny brat. Also correct pronunciations of the races would be nice.

Love the book, cant stand the narrator
Omg, the speaker. Awful. 1. Learn to say the words in the book. Yes, they’re made up, but they’re still pronounced a certain way! 2. Why does every girl voice have to be high and dumb sounding? 3. The southern accent. Omg.
The book itself is compelling and a great intro to the series, but the narrator is aaaaawful.

Love the book. Horrible narrator
Story line was great.
The narrator was horrible. She made all the characters sound like little cartoon characters, either little doll like or evil villain. Stephanie Wolf should have just read the entire book in her “normal” Rose Hathaway characters voice.

Story is great but the narrator is a bit boring.
It feels like the narrator was a bit new. I wish she would get more into the characters and voices like the narrator for Harry Potter and the Graceling series. I have already read the book so it didn’t really take away from the story for me, but I wish she would have seemed more into it.

Not amazing narrator but better than books 2 & 3's
Wolf is better than Hvam (book 2 & 3's Narrator). But even though she is better her baby voice is bothersome. Still, despite all that I enjoyed listening. I particularly love that I read it first the old fashioned way. And not entirely sure I would have gotten through the book had I not already read it myself.
Audible needs mature sounding female narrators, the high pitch screeching hurts my ears.

Love this series so much, one of my all time favourites. Really well developed characters with fun teen drama and vampirism thrown in! Fantastic storyline
I really enjoyed this book, so much so I finished it over 3 days (an audible record for me) there was some areas I found slightly cringe worthy as an adult reader due to the innocence of some of the language used, however I was already aware this book is aimed at teenagers. It had just enough splash of intimacy to keep it interesting, and the narrative in itself is very gripping.
I’m very eager to start the next book!
Side note: the voice used for this book is slightly robotic but she does accents well and has a clear differentiation between voices.

Generally enjoyable 👍
Yes the voice is robotic in parts, but I found I could easily ignore those moments. The story is enjoyable, a tad 'teenagery', but that's to be expected. The story touches and explores more complicated emotions, such as depression & self harm. If you like vampires, romance, easy reading then give this a go. I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.

The way the narrator did Lisa and Mia's voices will forever haunt me. I wanted to revisit this series in it's audible format but it's true the narrator makes it a little unbearable. Still I had a good time reminiscing. Hoping the new show coming up will do the books justice.

Surprisingly good!
The narrator was actually very good. It didn't sound funny when altering the personalities of the book! The book itself, was very interesting! The movie though, made from it, was in my opinion very poor.
