Publisher's summary

Rose loves Dimitri. Dimitri might love Tasha. And Mason would die to be with Rose....

It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians - including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks... This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price....

Great story terrible reading

I loved the story line and the 2nd chapter to the series. Howevern the reader did not convey the proper emotions for the story. For example, something would be said in an excited voice when it was supposed to be mumbled. It was completely off from what it should be

Hvam is a downgrade from the narration of book 1

Despite the horrible voicing and distracting over-diction of this narrator; i still managed to enjoy this audible. It is nice to listen to books I have already read the old fashioned way.

Narrator is terrible

I love this book but they picked the worst narrator. She's not replaced until the 4th book and I'm not looking forward to hearing her cry baby voice for 2 books. If you can push through it's worth it!

Occasional mistakes

Narrator confused Mia Rinaldi's name and called her MAYA. Starting when Rose meets Adrienne Ivashkov.

the reader really soured the experience

the readers voice was so different than that of the first book and it was really hard to get over at first. also, she made rose sound like a braty 12 year old and Dimitri suddenly didnt have a Russian accent

Inconsistent narration but good story

I love the story but hated the inconsistent narration. For example, narrator began pronouncing Mia as “Me-uh” and out of nowhere switched to “My-uh” for the rest of the story. It was a little hard to hear after a while and got quite annoying. The further novels have a better narrator and i wish they’d redo the first few.

Love the story, HATE the narrator

I love the Vampire Academy series. It has been a while since I read the books and thought I would listen to them on audio. MISTAKE! Rose is the lead character, a strong, tough young woman and every time she speaks she is the whiniest voice I ever hear. It completely detracts from the story because you just can't wait for her to stop talking. This is too good of a story for this horrible narration. The book really needs to be recorded by someone who can not only do justice to the book/series, but who will encapsulate the character of Rose and bring her character to life.

Great

I loved this book and the narrator does a great job of getting the emotions of the characters across. I only wish sh had at least tried with the accents Dimitri and Adrian feel only half themselves without it.

The narrator keeps changing.

I don’t like it the changing narrator cause it messes with my perception of Rose. At least this girl pronounced moroi and dhampir correctly.

The narration is weird

An alright book for teens that could have dealt with death better. The narrator didn't help.

Great story

I always forget how bratty Rose is in this series but luckily having read them as a teen I have nostalgia to get me through the cringier bits now I’m older xD these are my favourite series! I do hate how long the music plays for at the beginning and the end though.

Narration is ok. Nothing great and a little annoying at times but you get used to it.
