Publisher's summary

From master storyteller and New York Times-bestseller Tad Williams comes the third book in the landmark epic fantasy saga of Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn.

Tad Williams introduced audiences to the incredible fantasy world of Osten Ard in his internationally bestselling series Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. The trilogy inspired a generation of modern fantasy writers, including George R.R. Martin, Patrick Rothfuss, and Christopher Paolini, and defined Tad Williams as one of the most important fantasy writers of our time.

BOOK THREE: TO GREEN ANGEL TOWER

The evil minions of the undead Sithi Storm King are beginning their final preparations for the kingdom-shattering culmination of their dark sorceries, drawing King Elias ever deeper into their nightmarish, spell-spun world.

As the Storm King’s power grows and the boundaries of time begin to blur, the loyal allies of Prince Josua struggle to rally their forces at the Stone of Farewell. There, too, Simon and the surviving members of the League of the Scroll have gathered for a desperate attempt to unravel mysteries from the forgotten past.

For if the League can reclaim these age-old secrets of magic long-buried beneath the dusts of time, they may be able to reveal to Josua and his army the only means of striking down the unslayable foe....

After the landmark Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy, the epic saga of Osten Ard continues with The Heart of What Was Lost. Then don’t miss the sequel trilogy, The Last King of Osten Ard, beginning with The Witchwood Crown!

Beautiful, Epic, (but Slow) End to the Journey

It's a little difficult to know exactly how to judge this book (and series).

On the one hand, it's beautifully written, with wonderful characters and a (mostly) engaging plot. I have absolutely zero issues proclaiming Tad Williams as one of the best writers alive. He is a true wordsmith, and some of the passages of this book and series will stay with me forever.

On the other hand, this book (and series) is LONG. And SLOW. The audiobook for To Green Angel Tower alone is a staggering 64 HOURS long. It took me almost two and a half years of inconsistent listening to finish it. It's not that it wasn't good, but it wasn't always engaging enough for me to feel like I HAD to listen to it.

The ending was truly wonderful, though - and I do plan to listen to the new trilogy soon.

Ultimately, I'm not surprised that this series is so beloved by many fantasy readers (and writers). It really does bridge the gap between Tolkien and modern-day fantasy beautifully. It's not perfect, however, and your mileage may vary when things slow down.

Recommended for sure, but maybe not for everyone.

One of the best books I've ever read

As someone who has read a fair number of books between my own interests and an English degree, I would say this is one of the absolute best books I have ever read. It was an excellently satisfying end to a phenomenal trilogy. The story was well put together with this final installment bringing together loose ends of the previous two books while still driving the story in an exciting direction. I listen to books while I read more often now as I find that it helps greatly with efficiency, comprehension, and retention. The narrator, Andrew Wincott, finishes out the trilogy singularly well bringing characters even more alive. All in all, one of the best, if not the best, book and trilogy that I have ever read, and listening to it with Andrew Wincott only enhanced the experience. I am definitely going to miss the characters and story as if they were old friends.

The epic conclusion to the masterpiece series!

Audible puts together an excellent audiobook version of the huge third book in this undeniably epic fantasy adventure! Fair warning - this book is BIG! My paperback edition had to divide the book into two volumes to make it fit; Audible evidently ran into size difficulties as well and had to divide the recording into 6 sections in order to make it easier to download! But this book is absolutely amazing, a masterpiece of the fantasy genre in its own right and the capstone to an epic trilogy - you don't want to miss this one!

Still great.

I read this almost 20 yrs ago. The narrator brought a new depth to it that allowed me to feel as if I were going through it for the first time.

Great listen

What a rewarding book to have finished. Not only because of its length and detail, but how well it pulled together and answered all the mysteries that were being worked out throughout the journey.
