Publisher's summary

Superheroes and villains constantly battle for control of Denver, Colorado, so somebody has to do the heavy lifting. CJ Cruz found his niche working for whichever super-flavor-of-the-day happens to be running the show at the time. Since most of the self-labeled heroes claiming to be on the side of justice don’t hire henchmen, he usually winds up doing the street-level work for supers operating outside the law. His family and priest just think he’s a gangster, but CJ knows his motivation is pure. He keeps on the windy side of law enforcement by following a few simple rules, the first of which is keep your head down and never be the boss’ right-hand man. People tell him he should get a new job, but he likes working around supers. Besides, except for intimidation and roughing people up, he doesn’t have any other skills necessary to make rent and pay child support.

An excellent origin story of the best thug

This book plays with what goes on behind the supers. We get to see the support staff that manages the business dealings and more mundane goings on.

We get some excellent adventure with some pretty likable characters along the way, and we get some deeper questions about what makes a hero or villain, and what rights and responsibilities do people who interact with powerful people actually have.

I didn't particularly like the moral lesson at the end, it felt a bit too simple for what was going on but no spoilers.

A good read

This was a story about hero's & Villains. It was quite different from what I usually read. The characters were great & quite a bit of action, I enjoyed all the different superpowers. CJ works for the superhero's/villains. That is how he supports his ex-wife and daughter. As he came into his powers, he had to decided what he really wanted. All in all, an enjoyable read.

Great book!

"this book was given to me for free for a fair review."

Thug number one is a very very good book. The book is written in a way that keeps you engage while introducing you to characters and the story in a very fun way. The humor in the book takes awhile to get used to but once you get it it is hilarious. I love the characters, the superpowers, and how they intertwine. if you haven't any reservations please pick up this book ASAP you will not regret it.

Not Bad

A different take on Superheroes...The story and narration by Henry Kramer were good. My only gripe is that it was recorded too low, you have to turn your volume up quite a bit more than most audiobooks. But all in all this was an enjoyable listen, so I would recommend this book. I received this audiobook from S.O and the author, narrator or rights holder, and this is my unbiased review.

Different take on super-hero book

This was a very interesting take on super-hero books coming at it not just from the villain's side of thing but by then henchmen. I've never seen that done, though I've seen villains, and even side-kicks perspectives before. It was a fun, unique take that Wymore did and very enjoyable.

I didn't think the audio version was missing anything, Kramer did a great job with the performance and drawing the audience in. However reading some of the Amazon reviews it looks like the print version included illustrations that I want to see enough now that I intend to buy a kindle version just for those. I know sometimes Audible includes a PDF, so might be nice to include those if possible here as well.

Over all a fun book and I hope for a sequel.
