I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I like this book. Wymore writes well, keeps me engaged in the story, and presents a unique package with a comic book/novel combination.
CJ works for superheros/villains in order to support his ex-wife and their daughter. He doesn't particularly enjoy his work, but he feels like he doesn't have a choice because that's where the money is. Eventually, he learns that his ability to choose is actually critical and he must decide whether HE wants to be a hero or a villain.
I enjoy the comic book type illustrations and sound effect speech bubbles riddled through the book. The illustrations look a tad juvenile for the target audience, but they are still well-done.
What made me take away a couple stars was that this book reads like fan fiction for Brandon Sanderson's Reckoner series. Though the setting and characters are different, there are a lot of similarities in situations, backstory, and superhero/villain characteristics. I would have liked it to be a little more original.
Overall, it's an entertaining story.
