Publisher's summary

  • Do you feel like there is more to the default life?
  • Are you seeking what else is out there in the world?
  • Do you want to spend more time with your soul purpose?

We live in a world where the majority of people maintain the status quo: you grow up, study, work, raise a family, and then perish. We are told to do more, consume more, and achieve more without really questioning the motive behind it all. This book offers a different perspective: you don't have to drive on the main highway of life, or even in the fast lane, rather you can take more detours in your life. These detours may lead you somewhere completely different than where you had intended for your life to go. Give it a try, you might be pleasantly surprised. I dare you. Who knows? You just might end up thriving.

Colin's life took an unexpected turn in 2012 when he fell into depression during his medical training. He realized that he was spiritually dying from his soulless environment. Instead of quitting, he sought a deeper understanding of himself. He went within. Drawing on influences and inspirations from his experiences as a traveling physician and his adventures as a world traveler, Colin felt it was time to put his thoughts down on paper. His hope is to help inspire you to make more conscious choices.

Thrive!

This is a bold and fresh concept in medicine and life. The built in action steps bring the book experience to a whole new level. The genuine sincerity of the author is palpable in this audiobook. I feel a reread could happen sooner than later.

Never Judge a Book by its Cover - A Must Read!

I really did not know what to expect with this book. It was written by Dr. Colin Zhu and I thought the book was going to be mostly about health. In a way it is but not in the sense I was thinking. This book focuses on your mental well being. Dr. Zhu makes you question if you are living your life to it's fullest potential or are you just existing and allowing each day to pass by without truly being happy.
I enjoyed this book because Dr. Zhu allows the readers to get to know him. He talks about his background, his childhood, his family and his own personal experiences, highs and lows, which allows the reader to relate to him. I didn't expect to be in tears but a couple of chapters did have me in tears. At the end of each chapter there are simple exercises to do that will make you think about your current life state. Even if you don't have much to change in your life, this book will still help you see yourself differently. The chapter about forgiveness resonated with me so much because I don't forgive so easily. I had to really take a deep look and understand why that is.
This was a great read/listen. Don't let the cover fool you, this book will change your life for the better.

Deeper than I thought

Engaging stories. Invitations to act at the end of every chapter. Insightful principles which, as I’ve applied, have helped me more than physically, but emotionally and spiritually. Thank you Dr. Zhu for sharing your experiences and hard earned knowledge!
