It starts with a family slaughtered by Apaches, a dog smarter than most humans Dooley knows, and a girl with a wounded soul. And the blood-hungry brothers of the outlaw Dooley killed will not give up their pursuit until they've avenged his death.

The farther Dooley tries to head north, destiny pushes him west. His trail is populated by strange friends and dangerous enemies, strewn with bad luck and bad blood - and frequently interrupted by sudden storms of gunfire.

jack rabbit

no self respecting cowboy ate a jack rabbit. they were diseased, flee and tick infested. meat stingy greasy tasteless.

Different

Good story but a different ending. Not exactly what I thought might happen but was pretty good

this is his worst book

I have liked all this author books except this one. stupid story, not much to it

Plot like a pinball

I usually like Johnstone’s writing but the plot in this book was like a pinball, bouncing all around and never seeming to have a destination.

jumped around more or less but it still kept me interested. I can't wait to hear the next book.

great story

quite different than what I'm used to for a western but I have to say I really enjoyed it. narration was superb.

Not Bad

I'm not really sure what the overall plot was...the story was a bit dis-jointed and the ending...well...it just ended. But it kept me entertained while painting a few rooms in my house.
