THE GREATEST WESTERN WRITERS OF THE 21ST CENTURY

The first book in a magnificent new series by America's best-selling Western writer: Here is the towering saga of Breckenridge Wallace, a new breed of intrepid pioneer who helped forge a path through the wild American frontier....

THE FRONTIERSMAN

In Tennessee, 17-year-old Breckinridge Wallace knew the laws of nature. When his life was in danger, he showed a fearless instinct to fight back. Killing a thug who was sent to kill him got Breckinridge exiled from his Smoky Mountain home. Brutally wounding an Indian attacker earned him an enemy for life.... Now, from the bustling streets of St. Louis to the vast stillness of the Missouri headwaters, Breckinridge is discovering a new world of splendor, violence, promise, and betrayal. Most off all, he is clawing his way to manhood behind the law of the gun. Because the trouble he left in Tennessee won't let him go. A killer stalks his every move. And by the time he joins a dangerous expedition, Breckenridge has only had a small taste of the blood, horror, and violence he must face next - to make his way to a new frontier....

Non stop action!

We’ll done realistic western frontier story. Breckinridge is a character you can’t help but like and root for even though he makes dumb decisions sometimes. He’s a magnet for trouble following him wherever he goes but that keeps the entertainment factor high. It’s hard to stop listening and you’ll find yourself continuing well into the wee hours of the morning! If you love western frontier stories, this one does not disappoint.

Excellent “fiction”

While it follows the real life story of Simon Kenton in many ways, it’s a wonderful story combining many early Frontiersmen legends and stories. Narration is real good!

The most incredible book I have ever read!

A lot can be said on behalf of the narrator's performance, but it would have to sit side saddle for me to the most important part of this review. This book was everything I was looking for in a frontier novel. The character was so well written I even wanted to befriend him myself. The hardships were plenty, and the victories small but enlightening enough to turn a boy into a man. I won't spoil it for anyone else, but getting lost is this journey is advised immensely by this listener!

attention grabbing

I am not the type that loves reading booksbor listening to them much but this book is one of the few that has caught my attention and had me listening to it at every opportunity. It made my labor intensive work fly by as I was completely indulged by this story. Hope there's a book 2!

The title is a bit of a misnomer but great story otherwise.

I enjoyed this story very much except that I felt thrown off by the title. As the story unfolds I expected the young man to become a frontiersman. The bulk of this story is about the adventures of his flight west as a fugitive from an unjust murder accusation. His goal is to become a frontiersman in the Rocky Mountains, earning his living through trapping.
He travels all the way to the Great Plains where he decides to return home after receiving a letter from his brother.
After visiting his family he soon leaves home again on a new set of adventures where, I suppose, he will one day fulfill his goal.

A Good Escape

With all the trouble in the world, this book will take you away to another time and place. I enjoyed listening to it; the narrator was fine.

Pain in the ass

Again please just put book 1,2,3 and so on on the cover don’t know if it’s audible or the author but it is a pain in the ass to order the next book in a series. I am almost at the point I will stop reading Johnstone books and others because of this issues. Thank you
