A HAIL OF BULLETS TO THE CHIEF

Deadwood, South Dakota. Miners flock there seeking fortunes, while cardsharps, bandits, and businessmen seek to deprive those who strike gold by means fair and foul. Legendary former lawman Seth Bullock plans to keep the peace by any means necessary—especially when his good friend, President Theodore Roosevelt, is expected in town to celebrate the anniversary of Deadwood's founding.

Delayed in Washington, the President has sent his wife and children to the boomtown ahead of his arrival. But Ambrose Neill, a former New York City policeman jailed by Roosevelt for corruption has kidnapped the First Family. Backed by a gang of trigger-happy outlaws and supported by a ruthless senator, Neill plans to politically control the Commander-in-Chief before slaughtering him.

But what Neill and his cohorts don't realize is that Roosevelt has gathered a deadly posse of rough riders including Bullock—and the legendary father-son gunfighters Frank and Conrad Morgan—who are more likely to bring the gang to justice dead than alive . . .

fun story

Having listened to many books from this author. A narrator can make or break a audio book. The story is ok but the narrator is not right for western books. He is hard to listen to.

Narrator ruins the story

The story has a real slow start, and the narrator just about put me to sleep. but after it got started it was pretty good. still didn't care for the narrator.

This western story that was well written and narrated. The story kept me engaged throughout.

Entertaining

The story seems like it will be interesting, but I can’t get over how the narrator sounds like my stereotypically nerdy pocket-protector-wearing 10th grade algebra teacher. The nasal voice combined with very precise enunciation and absolutely no emotion makes for a terrible western. If this comes out with a better narrator like George Guidall or something, I’ll give it another shot, or maybe pick up a dead tree copy. But there is no way I can sit through 10 hours of this guy’s voice.

Painful narration

Don't take offense please; I like Al's narration. He has a lovely tenor voice and not bad at varying character voices at all. (But Teddy Roosevelt was a New Yorker - born and raised in Manhattan - only in Massachusetts for 3 years during college in Cambridge!) He had a New York accent for gosh sakes! Al barely made him sound Cambridgian.

That was my main criticism with the narration, although a baritone voice is much better for westerns even a bass like J. Rodney's, who really can put me to sleep, sigh... Please work on the Eastern American tones and please consider narrating childrens and teens books. Thanks Al!

This is the first book in this series. I hope there is more to come. This book has everything I want in a book. I like Frank Morgan and Kid Morgan. This book makes me want to go back and read or listen to all of Frank and Kid's books and learn more about them. Also Hunter Buncanon is in this book. I'm not that familiar with him but he has his own series. There is three legends working together. In this book Roosevelts kids gets kidnapped because some guys wants to get even with him. There is a good storyline and good strong characters. The three works together to help rescue them. I highly recommend this book. I think it's worth a credit or buying it. It's a book that I'll listen to again later. Al Kessel did a great job narrating this book. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.
