Story
In March 2010, The Scripps Research Institute released a study showing that rats on a junk-food diet had just as difficult a time - if not more so - giving up excess fat and sugar as the rats who were struggling to recover from cocaine dependence. The results showed that certain foods actually alter the brain's chemistry, making our consumption of these foods less like an indulgence and more like an addiction. Dr. Dow, a psychologist who specializes in addictive behavior and eating disorders, here introduces a four-week program for breaking the hold that food has over the body, mind, and spirit.

Among Americans, diabetes is more prevalent today than ever. Obesity is at epidemic proportions; nearly 10% of children are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. And sugar is at the root of these, and other, critical, society-wide, health-related problems. With his signature command of both science and straight talk, Gary Taubes delves into Americans' history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup.

In the late 1970s when the government mandated we get the fat out of our food, the food industry responded by pouring more sugar in. The result has been a perfect storm, disastrously altering our biochemistry and driving our eating habits out of our control. To help us lose weight and recover our health, Robert Lustig presents personal strategies to readjust the key hormones that regulate hunger, reward, and stress; and societal strategies to improve the health of the next generation.

But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease.

Publisher's Summary
In this newly repackaged edition of Diet Rehab, best-selling author and brain-health expert, Dr. Mike Dow, shows how sugar effects brain chemistry, and provides new research on dieting and hypnosis. What makes a healthy brain? The answer is simpler than you think.
In Diet Rehab, Dr. Mike Dow shared a simple, yet powerful plan to help readers kick their food addictions. Since then, Dr. Dow has gone on to become a New York Times best-selling author, and has continued to research and publish books extensively on improving brain health. Over the past five years, he's gathered even more data that shows how our standard American diet is harming our brains and our bodies - and what we can do about it.
In 2015, the first human study linking the blood-sugar spiking Western diet and a smaller hippocampus was published. There is now scientific proof that sugar is shrinking the brain! With The Sugar Brain Fix, Dr. Dow takes a closer look at how sugar effects brain chemistry, and the ways we can fix it. The audio features cutting-edge research and Dr. Dow's modified Mediterranean diet - the best diet for brain health and wellness. The Sugar Brain Fix will also incorporate research about hypnosis, and other activities to naturally boost brain health. At its core, The Sugar Brain Fix is a cognitive behavioral guide for boosting serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain with a new-and-improved diet and natural mind-set shifts, while improving overall health. The diet has a clinically proven, three-prong approach: first, eliminate sugar; second, boost Mediterranean-diet-friendly fats; and third, increase probiotics.

Five Stars
Love this book! It explains how sugar and bad fats actually shrink our brain and how we can turn it around and actually grow our brain and make it healthier by eating the diet Dr. Dow has created that is a mixture of a Keto inspired and Mediterranean diet. The book talks a lot about dopamine and serotonin and how foods affect our levels. Dr. Dow includes a variety of ways to boost dopamine and serotonin naturally to improve mood and brain function. It's a lot more than a diet, it is a brain enhancing and mood boosting program. Great information! I'm all in!

I have never read a more complete how-to book. Dr. Dow explains all of the research, his methods and prepares a person for success. I learned a great deal from his discussion about cognitive behavior therapy and self-hypnosis. If someone suffers from the “blues” or doubts about him/herself to succeed, his book read by him, is a good listen. I loved it and enjoy listening to different parts again and again for inspiration.

With his signature command of both science and straight talk, Gary Taubes delves into Americans' history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup.
