Publisher's summary

The secret Father Manny Gonzalez, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, kept for over 20 years had clearly caught up with him when he is found shot dead in his parish rectory. His childhood friend, Lieutenant Ryan Condon, commander of the NYPD Bronx Homicide Squad, seems determined to have the priest's killer brought to justice. The stakes are raised when an unyielding Latina detective, Toni Santiago, begins to suspect the lieutenant's involvement.

The Sons of Mount Carmel delves into themes of faith, trust, and atonement. It explores the consequences of past choices.

Great book

I listened all night couldn't stop. Not normally my type of book but I got it because I listened to the narrator on another book and gave it a try. Not disappointed. Really good

A complex thriller

The Sons of Mount Carmel. .
A complex plot with many twists and turns. The characters are strong and often struggling with inner demons. The pace varies from slow to action packed with all levels in between.
The author masterfully ties the many strands of the plot together in the final couple of hours. In an explosive finish.
A great read/listen for fans of the thriller genre.
Narration is excellent.

Awesome Twists!

The Sons of Mount Carmel by R. Jay Alvarez is full of unpredictable twists. I love it when an author surprises me. The details written about police procedures seem very authentic. I loved the ending of this book. Well done! Daniela Acitelli was wonderful bringing the characters to life. She gave them distinguishable voices. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntary written this review. I would definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

One of the best audiobooks...

To ne, this is one of the best audiobooks I have heard so far. It was really entertaining, I particularly like the narrator's voice, and I could not solve the case (whodunit?) almost to the very end.

I listened to it almost in one go. Highly recommended.

Narrator...

Story would have been better if the narrator didn’t read so flat. Could barely stick with it and ended up skipping to the end...lol

Who done it in the real world of the NYPD

If you want a real murder mystery with intimate knowledge of the behind the scenes of NYPD homicide squads in the Bronx. You won't be disappointed. Very well done by a real retired worrier of 20 plus years in service of a City that never sleeps... enjoy

On the whole---I enjoyed the book

I enjoyed this mystery, although at times, I did find it a little unbelievable. I read a lot of mysteries, so I gradually figured out the killer before it was revealed. It really did seem that both Tony and the Lieutenant were foolish in their approaches. They were afforded several chances to share and work together! Still-------on the whole, I enjoyed the book.

I found the narrator difficult to listen to. Some of the voice were fine, but some were unbearable. In an effort to differentiate voices from each other, so were deathly slow, breathy, and annoying!
