Publisher's summary
Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are intelligent children. They are charming, and resourceful, and have pleasant facial features. Unfortunately, they are exceptionally unlucky.
In the first two books alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, a lumpy bed, a deadly serpent, a large brass reading lamp, a long knife, and a terrible odor.
In the tradition of great storytellers, from Dickens to Dahl, comes an exquisitely dark comedy that is both literary and irreverent, hilarious and deftly crafted. Never before has a tale of three likeable and unfortunate children been quite so enchanting, or quite so uproariously unhappy.

Story
Life in a small town can be pretty boring when everyone avoids you like the plague. But after their father unwittingly sends them to stay with an aunt who’s away on holiday, the Hardscrabble children take off on an adventure that begins in the seedy streets of London and ends in a peculiar sea village where legend has it a monstrous creature lives who is half boy and half animal.
In this wickedly dark, unusual, and compelling novel, Ellen Potter masterfully tells the tale of one deliciously strange family and a secret that changes everything.

Eleven-year-old David is about to meet his new stepsister, Amanda, who is only one year older than he is. Amanda arrives at their big old house wearing a huge tattered shawl and carrying a sharp-eyed crow in a cage. She is hardly what David expects. Even his younger brother and sisters join in, making sure their parents suspect nothing.

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity - and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and is spending a year in Manhattan while she pursues her career in professional ballroom dance. Wicked Fun
Loved book 2 in this series. I love how the story starts so happily and quickly turns dark. The children can tell Count Olaf is up to his old tricks, but the other characters have blinders on. Loved how Sunny's character develops and hearing her say real words. Such a fun relationship between Sunny and the Incredibly Deadly Viper. Looking forward to book 3!

Good but no Warburton
love the story. I give it 4 because Tim Curry is very talented, but I've grown attached to Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket. Nothing else can completely satisfy now.
I also felt this was MUCH better than the full cast version.

Tim Curry is amazing
Love Curry's character voices and interpretation. He really fits the tone of the book. It's the only audiobook series where I've never found the reader annoying or distracting. Quite the opposite: I couldn't read the books now without hearing Curry's voice in my head! So good.
