Publisher's summary

Kal may be on his way to becoming a monster, but with Bell at his side, at least he’s in good company.

New London circa 1912. A few short months have passed since they stabbed Kal in the back and cast him into the abyss.

Ouroboros. A criminal organization with deep pockets and deeper connections that infest the highest ranks of the nobility. Ouroboros specializes in trafficking, crimes of magic, and deals in all that is immoral or illegal. Dark forces are brewing, and Ouroboros stands in the eye of the storm.

New London is a city that never sleeps...until now. Storefronts are closed, windows are shuttered, and doors are barred while dark entities terrorizing the streets at night bring indiscriminate death to all. And in broad daylight, a serial killer continues to wreak havoc on the magical community.

Kal will take Ouroboros apart brick by brick if he has to, while Sammie has so deeply entrenched herself with the enemy that there’s little hope of their relationship returning to its roots.

In a cruel twist of fate, Fin Macool gets his dearest wish granted, and he leaves Kal’s side. Alone, will Kal and Bell be able to defeat the sea of enemies arrayed against them?

Intriguing and engaging.

I got a copy of this on audible during an author’s promotion. As soon as I finished I preordered the omnibus edition on kindle. Ryder plunges us directly into the action, trickling out details about the setting, characters, the rules of magic, and their history as they become relevant. I came in on the end of Kal and Bell's first story arc. I didn't know what had come before, and it seemed crucial to correctly understanding the current story. Fortunately, Ryder provides all of these things as they are needed. Even though I didn't feel I was missing out of background or details that I needed, I still preordered the omnibus edition. I don't just want to hear about Kal and Bell's adventures, I want to join them!

Greg Patmore narrates the audio version with an Irish lilt and perfect diction. I had no trouble following the reading or tracing the action. The characters each have distinct voices. The story and dialog flows naturally from beat to beat. Kal is immensely likable, compassionate, and utterly ruthless toward the irredeemably evil. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book and look forward to reading the previous stories.

Fantastic Dark Fae YA

Parents- applying movie ratings, to this it would be between PG13 - R and really is probably a +15 read. It has more to do with the violence and I would say if you're squeamish with bloody scenes then you may struggle with this series. There is some bad language although happily no f-bombs, and the overall tone is pretty dark (dealing with lots of emotions and dark/evil fae).

That being said, I really have loved listening to this series! The action and adventure has a great pace, keeps me on my toes, and now has me anxiously awaiting the next installment. You really develop connections with the characters, which makes me need to see how their story plays out.

I can't say it enough that this narrator is incredible! He does such a fantastic job on all the differentiations on voices, accents and is just a ton of fun to listen to!

The action continues

Back in New London and the monsters come out at night. As the twists and turns keep coming, will Kal and Bell be able to survive?

Ren Ryder continues to deliver an action packed tale with great characters. I was left wanting more.

Greg Patmore’s performance was very well done. I love how he brought the characters to life.

My Favorite In The Series So Far

I really loved this entry! From the first moment, we are in another world: a world of magic and danger. Ren Ryder gives our protagonist real stakes and fi was scared for him and his familiar. This was exciting and tense.
The narrator is perfect as usual and takes me into the Gaslamp world.
