Publisher's summary

I'm not your average girl.

My best friend is my switchblade. My favorite hobby is using it on the cruel, the abusive, and anyone who gets on my bad side. I'm a convicted murderer with a chip on my shoulder and a dangerous lack of restraint.

And then there's Zak.

His rap sheet makes mine look tame. The bounty on his head is worth more money than I'll ever make, and the deadly fae that shadow his every step wield more power than I'll ever know.

He's the Crystal Druid, and his first mistake was setting foot on my turf. His second was saving my life.

And his final mistake will be failing to realize that however dark, however ruthless, however broken he is...I'm worse.

UGH!!!

I absolutely love the Guild Codex stories, they are my favorite and I've read all the books several times over. I love Annette Marie! She's amazing at building this world and very consistent throughout all the books.
This book was no different. It's amazing and captivating and I plowed through it; devouring it in a single day!! It has a little different feeling to it but I still very much enjoyed this book.
No spoilers but damn!!! Why did she have to leave me hanging like this at the end!!!! I'm dying!!!

My favorite Guild Codex book yet

I was definitely wanting to read about what happened next with the Crystal Druid but I wasn’t expecting such a rich new story line. Marie seamlessly blends old and new storylines in a way that never feels forced or recycled. She doesn’t just use previous book as a jumping off point, but adds new depth to the fascinating world she created. I cannot wait for the next book!

Fae-tastic!!!

Annette has hit the mark with the Guilded Codex world. Perfect world building, great magical system, well developed  characters, and stories that... they're just really entertaining!

This story gives us darker characters. They aren't all goodie-two shoes. They don't mind getting their hands dirty or bloody. I loved it. There is only so much do-gooder storytelling I can take. 🤣 Saber Rose is a better female lead than Torri. And the Fae... much more Fae in this series.

At this point any book in this series is a must read. This story introduces a new set of characters within the Guilded Codex world. As with the other series, events are intertwined with characters in the other books. This story mixes with Zach, aka The Ghost. It shows some of what he has been up to since the events with Torri and that series final installment.

Book ends with a cliff hanger so be prepared!

Narration was great!

Beware the bargains of the Fae

“Does this count as doing something stupid?”
This spinoff goes from urban to full fantasy as it steps into the Fae realm. The darker, Grimm’s fairy tale mystery vibe is matched by darker characters and backstories. I was a little disappointed that the Crystal Druid didn’t seem to contribute as much to the dark and dangerous story as prickly, stabby-stabby Saber. This was also less quippy, and more F bomb lippy, than the other series in the Guild world.
Overall, however, this was a great start to a four book arc.

This first book had few tie-ins to the other series in the Guild world. You don’t need to have heard any of the three other series, but if you are so inclined, the Warped series ties into this most, and the
Spellbound series is the original (tying to this series about half way in).

Zak is back and with great new characters

Finally a deeper dive into our favorite Druid, but
Saber is the main character and a great one.
I hate spoilers so I will leave it at; if you enjoyed Codex spellbound you will enjoy this book and I look forward to book 2.

Good Story Start, This is Book 1 in a New Series

I like this Story, but the MC Saber is a very angry, disgruntled human being. The Crystal Druid is interesting, but a ignigma to Saber through out most of this Story. Narrator did a good job with the entire storyline.

Not As Compelling

First, I need to iterate that I LOVE this series. I wait anxiously for each new story. However, I couldn’t relate to Saber. There didn’t seem to be much character development beyond anger. I couldn’t make myself care about her. I love Zach, though, I’ve never seen him as the “bad boy” to generate so much immediate hostility from the people who read his profile. I would like, for once, for someone to read his profile and toss it aside to go and get the “real” story.
I have to keep listening for the next book, but only for Zach. Saber can ride off onto the sunset

everything awesome except the ending

does this mean that there will be a sequel? the ending to this book is unexpected but also frustrating. it kind of like watching a movie after you are just about to finish it and the vcr eats the vhs. Or watching a TV series and the last episode that explains everything is never made because it got canceled. because of that I can't give it full marks. all I can do is say grrr.

So disappointing!

I loved all the other guild codex books, bunging the entire series, which is why this was so very disappointing. The protagonist has no redeeming qualities and is utterly lacking in charm. The Crystal Druid is portrayed as a tortured, powerful, mysterious magic man in the other books. Here he’s just another guy with some magic skills.

Don’t waste the credit.
