"Ashes of the Sun is fantasy at its finest"--Nicholas Eames, author of Kings of the Wyld
Long ago, a magical war destroyed an empire, and a new one was built in its ashes. But still the old grudges simmer, and two siblings will fight on opposite sides to save their world in the start of Django Wexler's new epic fantasy trilogy.
Gyre hasn't seen his beloved sister since their parents sold her to the mysterious Twilight Order. Now, twelve years after her disappearance, Gyre's sole focus is revenge, and he's willing to risk anything and anyone to claim enough power to destroy the Order.
Chasing rumors of a fabled city protecting a powerful artifact, Gyre comes face-to-face with his lost sister. But she isn't who she once was. Trained to be a warrior, Maya wields magic for the Twilight Order's cause. Standing on opposite sides of a looming civil war, the two siblings will learn that not even the ties of blood will keep them from splitting the world in two.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Ashes of the Sun is fantasy at its finest: deliciously inventive, brimming with ancient evils, fallen empires, mysterious technology, and devastating magic. Best of all, however, are its characters, each one crafted with deliberate care and developed in meaningful ways as their story unfolds."—Nicholas Eames, author of Kings of the Wyld
"Magic, mutants, and mayhem abound in Django Wexler's Ashes of the Sun, but there's also plenty of brain food to be had in this tale of a post-catastrophe world suffering under the yoke of unbending authoritarian rule. A fast-paced and highly entertaining ride through a compelling and original world"—Anthony Ryan, NYT bestselling author of Blood Song
"Reminiscent of Final Fantasy, Masters of the Universe, and Moorcock's The Jewel in the Skull, ASHES OF THE SUN is a science-fantasy adventure brimming with everything that is weird and wonderful about a world where magic and technology have fused in the fires of a fallen civilization."—Jonathan French, author of The Grey Bastards
"Ashes of the Sun shows that Wexler is a master of high fantasy. His plotting and this post-apocalyptic setting will warp your mind!"—S. M. Stirling, NYT bestselling author
"Gorgeous writing, powerfully-drawn characters, and an exciting storyline!"—K.D. Edwards, Author of The Last Sun and The Hanged Man
"Exciting. Immersive. Epic. A perfect page turner and a phenomenal start to a new series."—Peter Clines, author of The Fold and Ex-Heroes
"This is a book whose characters and world will stay with you well after the last page. Do yourself a favor and read it. Now."—Douglas Hulick, author of Among Thieves and Sworn in Steel
"Ashes of the Sun uses awesome worldbuilding and complex, diverse characters to fuse the aesthetics of Star Wars with the brainfeel of Fullmetal Alchemist. Ancient secrets! Queer ladies! Snark! I demand a TV adaptation ASAP!"—Foz Meadows
"Ashes of the Sun is the best sort of fantasy. With fascinating characters, a richly realized world, and romances both steamy and adorable, Gyre and Maya are epic heroes you'll want to know."—Robyn Bennis, author of The Guns Above
"Ashes of the Sun brings to life an ancient world of magic broken by war. It's a simmering post-apocalyptic fantasy that feels like the literary equivalent of a ticking time bomb. The book lights a fuse in its first few pages, slowly setting up stakes and a conflict big enough to break the bonds of love, loyalty, duty, and even family, all before the full burn of its last few chapters and the finale's thunderous explosion."—Evan Winter, author of The Rage of Dragons

Wexler does not disappoint in the opening of a new trilogy. Any fan of his previous works will certainly enjoy this new endeavor. Crisp plot lends itself in establishing the new world that is being built around the two main POV characters. Looking forward to the next entry after a very satisfying opening.

Great start to an exciting new world

I love this new universe! If you play video games and are into fantasy, you’ll be able to easily visualize some of the beasts and themes in this story but even with that, Wexler has once again broadened this universe to be one of new legend. There are creatures that I can easily visualize from Dragon Age and Final Fantasy and there are some magic aspects that I can associate with Robert Jordan’s worlds, but they are fantastically Wexler’s own world and so beautifully and woven into this story that it only makes the imagination of it all so much brighter!

The narrator does take a bit of getting used to, I think because of her accent, but after a few chapters, you get used to her and she’s part of the life of the story as she should be.

I’m excited to continue this trilogy and highly recommend it. Also, if you enjoy this one, I strongly recommend more of Django Wexler’s stories, he’s right up there with Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson!!

Narrator takes a minute to get used to but it is TOTALLY worth it!!!

I used to do more construction and these types of books were no problem just listen all day and work. Now I started a business that I work and talk with people all day. The type of book where I get addicted and binge doesn’t work so good with production. This book has great characters. Long book seems like 3 hours long so fast. Fantastic book.

Dang you Django

I listened to this book in 3 days- something of a record for me and my busy life!

The plot captivated me and the narrator added immensely to the experience. I don't understand why some reviewers claimed the narrator was "juvenile" etc; we obviously have very different tastes.

Characterization was outstanding. Fully rounded and believable characters throughout
I will be anxiously awaiting the second book (please let there be a second book!) inthis series.

Totally enjoyable ride!

I’m a Django Wexler fan, so his storytelling gets fives from me. That said, I couldn’t let those haters about the narrator go unanswered. Those complaining about her narrating “childishly “ obviously didn’t read ( ok, listen) past the first chapter ….which was about the two main characters when they were, wait for it…children.
Imogen Church is fantastic, whether she’s speaking as a child or an adult. Her talent paired with Mr Wexler’s equals excellence.

Ignore the few narrator complaints. She Rocks

The voice of this author is amazing and intricately beautiful. The characters all have amazing arcs and I can’t wait to read more of this series !!

This book is legit one of my new favorites

The story is a fun mix of magic/technology with pretty interesting characters. There's a lot of discovery of the true nature of the world that the reader gets to take part in alongside the characters, which I found to be my favorite part. The pacing keeps things exciting, and I think it's perfect for audiobook formatting.

I saw some people complaining about the narrator, but I strongly disagree. She plays it more like an audioplay than a traditional audiobook, but I loved it. It helped distinguish the characters more, and made it easier to follow along as I was doing other things while listening. Personally I prefer this style of narration to the typical deep-voiced British guy who really only has a couple voices and reads every scene with the same tempo. This narrator contributed a lot to the narrative, action scenes are told in clipped, frenetic ways while sentimental scenes are told slowly and with reverence. It all drew me into the story more.

Great Audiobook!

An addicting story with a great high-energy narration! The world would fit perfectly with the best of the Final Fantasy games. Of course, the highlight being an amazing tale of two siblings on opposite sides of the stories conflict with great action and gripping drama.

Fast paced and fun!
