Publisher's summary

"How can I describe the heaven that is your taste? I can't. There aren't enough superlatives..."

Former Soviet surgeon Roman Ivanescu honors his Hippocratic Oath never to do harm by working at a blood bank in Manhattan. Quenching his violent thirst without killing a soul, Roman resists his natural urges and dances on the edge of sanity. Entranced by his first taste of her, Roman hunts down prima ballerina Maiko Himura, who awakens in him a passion he thought long dead. But when Roman finds out his new love has just a few weeks left on earth, he must make a terrible choice. And for every gift, there is a price.

A vampire's passionate confession to his beloved, J.T. Geissinger's The Last Vampire transforms a classic predator into a man forced to make desperate choices for love.

Riveting!

The themes here may not be similar to some of the other books that JT has written, but the style is just as beautiful, if not more. This book was way too short. I would’ve love to continue to listen to the narrator tell his beautiful story. What an interesting perspective from a vampire. I really love this book and hope that JT will write others similar to this. The narrator was amazing as well!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this story and loved how it was told through a letter confessional left for Maiko when she wakes, kinda sad ending though, beautiful but sad!

Loved this unique vampire tale of love

This is a short story that immediately sucks you in. I love the main character and the tail he shares with you.

Another example of how J.T. Geissinger gives readers an unexpected experience with a story we THINK we’ve all heard 1000 times before.

Oh, I loved this novella!

It's sweet and sad and perfect. Roaman has the most delightful dry sense of humor, which kept this story from becoming maudlin.

I was not expecting a HEA so, unlike other listeners. I was not disappointed by the ending. It's reminiscent of A Tale of Two Cities.

The narration is superb.

A delectable little morsel of good storytelling

This is a romance but without the bodice ripping and any detailed sex which are replaced with a very good story told almost entirely in first-person with sensuality based in life experiences and not only or even primarily what goes in the bedroom. The story is a letter, a confession by 122-year-old vampire, phlebotomist, and relatively intentionally isolated, Roman Ivanescu. He’s “telling” it to ballerina, Maiko Himura.

Some of the language of passion and experience is so lovely, and the narrator does a great job bringing it to life when portraying Roman, less so with Maiko. But her dialogue is very few. Who she is, beyond being an Asian ballerina with a certain blood type and health concern, remains a mystery.

This story provides a mythology about humans’ connection to our blood which was new and interesting. And it also had an underlining degree of levity which really added to its charm. The vampire mythology is altered a bit. It’s flushed out in some ways but also different than commonly portrayed aspects. Yet, there are also some unanswered questions left about vampires, some answers Roman admits he doesn’t know. Overall, the story is a very good one, one that is romantic and bittersweet and well worth listening to.

Great but I’m torn 😔

I really loved this book. It was a very interesting story and the narrator was great. I was so torn about the ending though. I was expecting a bittersweet HEA bc that’s typical Geissinger. But it wasn’t even bittersweet. I loved everything leading up to the end. And I wish she created a loophole to make it work. Like their love concurred all or something. This just left me sad and unfulfilled. That’s the only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5. I need the HEA, even if bittersweet.
