Great book! Read it!

Want a glimpse of what a grid down looks like then this is the book for you. This book makes you think about the small things you can do to prepare for such an event.

EMP's are not overdone

I thought the EMP stories were overdone. This story is a fresh new look. The author is very clever and creative in the way his characters adapt to their situation. I love his handling of most people's normalcy bias and the paralysis that is so very dangerous to unprepared people in an emergency. A lot of lessons can be learned from his characters' failures and successes. This story is also entertaining with real characters. Enjoy! I did and I am looking forward to the next story in the line-up.

I-85 chronicles

This was a good Emp,end of the world book. The story is similar to others. I didn't think it was long enough to really care about the characters, although I would like to know how things end. Jamie Cutler was a good narrator.
I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

Unique EMP Story Excellent Narration

The I-85 Chronicles: Exit 41 "OTW BABY!” is written by R.A.Bratyanski. The narration is provided by Jamie Cutler. Total running time is 3 hours and 34 minutes. During that time the listener will hear what is the first installment in the author's new post-apocalyptic series. The story is familiar for the genre having an EMP event then following the parallel story tracks of the main character of the husband Beau as he struggles to get home the 30 miles and the wife who struggles to get home in the city they live in.

The story does hold the listener's attention. The author’s unique approach to the story having Beau not being a prepper having everything he needed before the event. Beau is also not in great physical shape. He has made morally questionable choices along the way to get home. Choices that could have long term effects on the city he is leaving behind. The author is doing a fun approach to this story with each edition a new exit off of I-85. By breaking the story up into short pieces to keep it fresh and ongoing as compared to one large story that dies on the vine with no resolution.

The narration by Jamie Cutler was very enjoyable. This is the first time that I have heard an audio performance from Mr. Cutler but he did an outstanding job on this production. His style an unvoiced reading style that is really suited to his rich deep voice. Those unfamiliar with the term unvoiced reading style, this is the same style employed by another narrator in this genre Kevin Pierce. The production quality of this audiobook is also the highest quality. I heard no problems during the entire performance. There were not any detectable flaws that I was able to hear during the entire performance such as loops, breaks, or buzzing. The production was crisp and clear. Robert Bratyanski delivered an excellent audiobook production. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I wish it were longer!

I loved this listen so much! It's a simple story on the surface - the lights go off; the grid goes down; time to get home. Beau's journey from work to home, with all of the equipment he had in preparation for such an event, was one thing after another. It was great.

I've never been to this part of North Carolina but the author wrote great scenes. I was totally there!

Cutler's narration was pretty special. I mean, the whole world was falling apart and he needed to deliver a narration to make that real. Nailed it.

I wished it were longer!

Needs to be longer!

We are presented with a slightly disturbing post-apocalyptic journal. Our protagonist, Beauregard Longstreet Jackson finds himself at work, 26-miles from home when an EMP turns the lights off in Charlotte, North Carolina. Although his immediate reaction is to get home to family, he is unable to resist children in need. The story, which appears to be the first book of a new series, details Beau’s journey across some of the most undesirable parts of the city. This is a good start, I just wish it was twice the length. Very dark and raw

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. It was very good, but very real. There is a lot of adult subject matter.

Unsettling and realistic... A fantastic read!

Fantastic audiobook that highlights the importance of being prepared... After all, failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

This story follows a man and a woman travelling after an EMP goes off, knocking out electronics

Narration was fantastic and I enjoyed listening to Jamie Cutler. I'm looking forward to not only hearing more of this story, but also more from the narrator himself.

Nobody is coming.

Beau Jackson was at work when the EMP turned off the power in Charlotte, North Carolina. Raised by prepper parents, he realized what had happened and was mostly prepared, unlike any of his work colleagues, Ignoring them as they waited for power to be restored, he unpacked the survival gear stored in his now dead car, cursing himself for failing to protect his electricals, loaded everything onto one of the firm's fork lift trucks and set out to travel the 26 mile journey home to his wife. The book is a gritty account of the first twenty four hours of his journey, coupled with an occasional background profile of his wife, Trudy, and her two coworkers at the veterinary surgery. It is powerfully written, giving both prepper advice and showing the worst and, sometimes, the unexpected best of human responses to the rapidly declining situation.
At times a very uncomfortable read, R.A.Bratyanski's book quickly draws in and holds the reader's attention and it is a shock when the book suddenly ends, Beau's journey far from completed, to be continued in the next, Exit 40, which, presumably, will cover the next 24 hours. It is because of this sudden conclusion of the book that the rating is only four stars. The narration by Jamie Cutler is good, told in a dispassionate way, like the book itself, which creates an almost documentary feeling. A steady reading, devoid of emotional outbursts, even in dramatic situations, this performance is very convincing.

My thanks to the rights holder of The 1 - 85 Chronicles: Exit 41, who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. It is a frightening account of a possible breakdown of society, with prepper advice, and recommended. But reader beware, this is only the beginning of a serial story of unknown length and you will want to continue the journey homewards with Beau.
