Publisher's summary

When bounty hunter Liam Quinn discovered that Claire Connolly was a Sensitive and infected with magic, he should have turned her in to be locked up in the prison district known as Devil's Isle. Instead, he helped her learn to control her power and introduced her to an underground group of paranormals and humans who know the truth about the war and those who fought it.

Now, the weight of Liam's own secrets has forced him into hiding. When a government agent is killed and Claire discovers that Liam is the prime suspect, she races to find him before the government can. But she'll discover proving his innocence is no simple matter. Their enemies are drawing closer, and time is running out....

Deeper Dive into the Veil

The writing is about a 6-7 on a scale of 10. I preferred Ilona Andrews, KF Breene and Dannika Dark.(needed something new, read all these) Performance is perhaps a 5. I say this because there are noticable flaws in the acting. At times, the actor/director did not understand the writing and presented the reading in a way that did not make sense. Other times, they were just not paying enough attention to the written queues.

And yet I enjoyed the characters enough to continue the series. I think others will too.

Great story

The story continues weeks after the last book. Liam is accused of murder. The search for Liam turns up sick paranormals that are connected with the murder somehow. Twists and turns and a powerful ending. Can't wait for next book.

Not bad.

Not quite as good as the first two but still a decent read. It wasn't quite as . . . coherent, I guess.

Devil be dammed

Chole Neill has done it again. Taking us on a wild ride through a new world of NOLA filled with mysterious dealings and magical creatures. Amy Landon did a wonderful job of narrating this story. ⚘⚘⚘

okay

The performance was horrible. it was like two different people narrated Claire character. There was no consistency of the narrative performance. However, the story was fine. A little mystery but after that it was a reasonable book.

Terrible narration!

The book has potential but with the terrible narration by Amy Landon I could barely get through listening to it! After 2 months of switching back to this book from others, for a chapter or two, I wasn’t able to take it for very long. Amy Landon’s use of voices for these characters are so terrible!

The Hunt

I liked the story. Not crazy about the narrator. Would have been. Enter if folks from southern LA sounded a bit like that is where they were from. So, maybe better read than listened to.

Filler book for the next in series

Well this book just drug for the first 2/3's. The UST and such between Liam and Claire got really annoying till the end. This book was def a filler to lead to the next (last??) book. Audiobook.... I really hate when the same reader forgets their voices between books. It was very distracting. I guess part of the problem is that I just started this series and there was no time between books so I noticed these differences more.

Good read

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 1/2
I am enjoying this series and really happy that it looks like there will be another book. With that The Hunt started out a little slow for my liking. There was not a lot that happened until Claire, Malachi and Gavin go on the hunt for Liam to warn him about Containment. Once Liam is back with the group things start picking up in the story. And we finally get a little conclusion on the whole Claire and Liam issue (thankfully).
We also learn a lot more about Claire’s history, who her mother was. This throws a huge kink in the chain. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series.

As I have for the first two books I let the talented Amy Landon narrator this story for me. I have a deep love for audiobooks and love to find narrators that can bring an author's words to life for me. Ms. Landon does a wonderful of bring Claire, Liam, Malachi, Gavin and the whole gain to life for me.

This series just keeps getting better!

I was devastated at the end of Book 2, and really reluctant to start again, but Claire Connelly grows stronger, emotionally, mentally, and magically. She takes much less guff from everyone and fully embraces her magic and her friendships. She also doesn't spend a ridiculously long time in "poor woe is me" mode. I know many men and women spend a lot of time feeling sorry for themselves, but not everyone. Many of us say that sucks, and move on. Claire has finally become strong enough to not wallow and move on to kicking butt. I appreciate that in a strong female character.
