fantastic storyline, best character development and clever idea. but the sound effects take me out a bit. If it's here to stay I'll just get used to it but would be nice to have a version without.

don't skip out on this only for that reason though. you'd be missing out

not a fan of sound effects

I love this book. The story is wonderful. That said, I could not listen to it through this audio book. I ended up just reading the physical novel because everytime I would get immersed into the story with the audio, the narrator would try to make the sound effects and it ripped me out of the immersion.

amazing story, Sound effects ruined it.

good story, just had trouble listening to the narrator hes not bad I've just been spoiled with voice actors with extremely large ranges that are able to make every character come to life and sound unique or whole productions with multiple narrators for main characters

good story, I'm just spoiled

I’m not sure why people were complaining about the narrator, he did great! Yes, he voices all the sound effects, but those are written in the book so of course he does! It wouldn’t be an unabridged audiobook if he didn’t. (I find a lot of books in this genre are like that. It’s not as common in English based books but it’s not hard to get used to if you want to.) About the only thing I can say against him is his “girl hunter” screams are not great (kinda funny actually) but he only has to do that a couple of times for the whole book so not hard to ignore.
Of course the story itself is phenomenal as well.
Honestly this was totally worth the buy and I can’t wait for the next audiobook!!

Fantastic all around!

So I’m gonna start by saying that for 90% of the story the performance is great, but the narrator makes a lot of sound effects. Now I don’t know if these sounds were in the original novel, if so, those sounds do NOT transfer well to audiobook format. for example when a monster growls, instead of just saying that it growled, the narrator makes an admittedly impressive growling sound. And there are more than a few times where he sounded out things like a door creaking which was……..like a door creaking. Now I will say that the sound effects themselves were great and I am actually impressed that he could make those noises, but well they make it hard to listen too. but outside of that it’s a good listen.

Good story. narration is iffy
