For nearly one hundred years the magi have co-existed in a forced peace, the black order ruling and those in red robes settling for their subservient role. This peace, however, is threatened when the young protege, Ayres, defies the order and assumes the forbidden white robes. When a break-away sect within the black order begins to gain power, marking themselves with an ancient anti-magi symbol, Ayres and his childhood companions take it upon themselves to uncover the true meaning behind the movement. Hunted by the black magi and struggling to master the white arts he has recently discovered, Ayres must return to the tower that nearly claimed his life, setting off a series of events that could destroy not only himself and the Order, but everything that exists.

Publisher's Summary
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean in 1962, at the height of the Cold War, the US military experimented with electromagnetic pulses created by detonating high atmosphere nuclear bombs. The project was code named Starfish Prime. The primary objective was to develop the ability to produce an EMP with enough force to knock out an entire nation’s communications, rendering a retaliatory attack impossible. The secondary objective, along with its consequences, was deemed too important to national security to ever be released.
In 1983, an American B52 Nuclear Bomber goes missing somewhere near the Bering Strait while delivering a secret cargo at the express order of President Ronald Reagan to an unmapped island.
Present day, in the Weddell Sea off the coast of Antarctica, a woman wakes up on a cruise ship to discover she’s the only person left aboard, despite no apparent fault with the ship. Sam Reilly, already on a rescue mission to Antarctica to save five French scientists, may be the only person standing in the way of the completion of The Cassidy Project.

James Bond, move over!
I absolutely love the detailed action involving all of the exciting technology. Weapons, advanced computer science and technology, awesome water, land and aircraft...how much more exciting and action packed can you get in one book?! I wish they would make these into movies, they would blow the James Bond Franchise out of the water. The characters are inviting, the storyline is exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I love all of the characters, the female characters are just as awesome and intelligent as the males. It’s so great to see women’s potential to excel, at traditionally male-centered activities, realistically portrayed, and which allows them to also portray the aspects of their biological imperative to be supportive and nurturing. The male characters are intelligent and dynamic, yet they display normal, human foibles and mistakes, that make them fun and relatable to the reader. The narrator is great at making different voices for the characters, I even recognized a character in an out-of-context scene by his voice! I could not put this book down, as it were, because I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next, so many exciting twists and turns. I’m looking forward to the newest book on Audible!

Sam Reilly, Book 5
By: Christopher Cartwright
Narrated by: David Gilmore
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
These Sam Reilly books just keep getting better and better! They are part Dan Brown, Indiana Jones, and James Bond but more grounded. Always lots of twists and turns, adventure, action, advanced science or a touch of science fiction, and wonderful characters. By now I feel like the crew is part family! Lol.
The narrator is great and it helps having the same one all the time. He does a wonderful job.

Another solid Sam Reilly book
I have really enjoyed all of the Sam Reilly books so far, and this one was just as entertaining as the others. Some of the science seemed to be stretched a little too far with radio interference from the surface causing problems with underwater communication. Also, the particle physics seemed to really push boundaries.
Even with the science issues, the story was still exciting a fun to listen to. Keep up the good work.

Good read, good series
Well-written and captivating with well-developed main characters reminding one of a poor man’s Vince Flynn. It’s hard coming into a series in the middle, books #4 & #5, I’ve obviously missed much. Another excellent book in this amazing series
Another excellent book in this great suspenseful, mystery, adventure series. Bringing in real historical events into fictional events. Just like the previous book it starts off with an historical mystery, then switches to the present day to solve the mystery. This book could have spent more time of the story focusing on the protagonists, maybe focusing a few more chapters on why he believed what he did. Sam Reilly continues to be indestructible and a womanizer, like a mix between Indiana Jones and James Bond, making this a fun book series. The writing is very descriptive, brings in real products and items and locations into the story. This book doesn't require you listen to the previous books in the series to enjoy it. Narration continues to be great, voices are very distinguishable and is very engaging.

Suspend your belief in reality, and enter into a great adventure in a world of fiction. To be honest this story doesn't push the realms of science too far, and the storyline is possible.
It is another great read from Christopher Cartwright - this series of books keeps getting better. Lots of fast paced action with characters I've grown to love.
Wonderfully narrated by David Gilmore. (as Always).

Sam is your man
So book 5 of the Sam Reilly series and we are now reliving into hydroncolliders and electromagnetic pulses that take out electricity. When Sam and his team find a cruise ship in the middle of Antarctica with only one passenger left aboard they put their lives on the line again to find out what is going on and why this woman seems to be the only person left behind. Surely it can’t be a coincidence who she is. As with all of these books we see Sam and his team risk life and limb to get to the bottom of what is going on and the adventure does not stop. This is what Indian Jones should be like.

This was a fascinating, fast paced, listen. Another great action adventure for Sam
I was provided with a free copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review.
I can't believe I now have to wait to find out what happens next. I haven't looked yet, but I hope book six is already out, or due out soon because I want more of Sam's adventures.
This book is as good as the first four. The idea behind the story is creepy in that you actually believe it is possible for the world to go that way. You have some sympathy for the bad guy at the beginning and by the end you have no idea who the bad guy is.
This is great if you enjoy the previous Sam Reilly novels, but you can listen to this one without the others. It is a brilliantly thought out idea and the action are of the usual calibre for the Sam Reilly novels.
The thing that sets this one apart for me, in a good way, I'm glad to say, it's that this one has more mystery in it. You know from the prologue that there is a particular thing Sam should be looking for, but you have no idea how that connects with the events and the people that he meets. Intriguing and very twisty, I think this is the best one so far.
Please keep them coming, I'm looking forward to learning what Sam does next.

A series similar to old style Adventure Novels
I love these books.
To me, the style these books are written in is reminiscent of the old style adventure novelists like H. Rider Haggard - who wrote King Solomons Mines and its sequel plus many other novels.
The author kindly gave me a free copy of book three and I was only halfway through listening to it when I knew I had to stop and read the first two before I finished it and was very happy to find this compilation.
If you want an adventure story that is just that without the gory bits that often are added to modern novels just to colour it but don't actually add to the story.
I have now listened to all six available on Audible and am sad the rest of the series so far is not available via Audible. I hope they read this review and consider adding them as listening via Kindle is just not the same.
