good fast paced sci fi

better written with better plot and characters than most in this genre. no action just for action's sake. worth reading the trilogy.

good srory line with enough twists

hard to put down, as almost every episode ends with a cliffhanger... the ending is sure to raise controversy between listeners...

A good story

This is A good but that we'll keep you interest and guessing what comes next. Definitely a recommend book.

Pleasant Surprise

What a find! A standout story, well narrated and tight, with an edge running through it and a twisty, complex plot that takes you right to last minute. I listen to most of my books at work,and while most of them are a pleasant distraction, this one grabbed me. I was impressed, and I think anyone who gets on board this ride will be as well.

Great performance with a twist

I enjoyed this book, with reservations. It was pretty much non-stop action from start to finish. The performance by Jeff Gurner was great. I also thought the idea of the Breach was clever; the ending reminding me a little of Inception with layers within layers. What I didn't like was the rather formulaic plot line of: women and/or men that have extraordinary military capabilities, but are killed or tricked easily by evil masterminds; ditto brilliant scientists and government strategists. I also get tired of the kick-butt, militarily-adept female who commands men, kills with ease, and has Zena, Princess Warrior capabilities, but always seems to be a brick-shy-of-a-full-load, when things go bad. Come on! There are a host of better ways to have written this book without some of the B-movie parts. Gosh! Just can't wait for the movie!

Great narration, character development, and story line. Just a good sci fi series. Read the series.

Yet Another Great Book By Patrick Lee

I absolutely loved this title. And without a doubt, Mr Gurrner has shown us again what a great narrator can do for a great book.

slow start but keep with it

I did not like the beginning but got hooked as story progressed. plot became more complex and ending was intriguing. worth the time to listen

Good Performance, Good Ending, Some Flaws

This book fits nicely into a "good", "bad", and "ugly" framework.

1. The Good.

This is the first audiobook I have every purchased because I liked what the narrator did with another book. And I was not disappointed. Jeff Gurner is an excellent narrator.

The plot is original and interesting and contains a nice resolution of a traditional sci-fi paradox at the end. (I won't say which one so as to avoid spoilers.)

The ending was strong and gave me a lot to think about. This book actually has quite a lot of intellectual depth, although that does not come through until the end.

2. The Bad (or at least the "not so good").

The characters are so-so. Only two characters are anything more than props. The main character is introduced at the beginning as an ex-con who served significant time in jail and was definitely guilty. His character seemed kind of ambiguous and I did not realize until the end that this was intentional. The other main character -- a woman -- did not seem entirely plausible to me, but she was okay.

The book was non-stop action until the end. Some people might like this, but I found it a bit frenetic -- written for people with short attention spans. There is very little character development or relationship development.

The story has a mostly negative arc. Things start bad and generally get worse until shortly before the final resolution. There are some upticks along the way but, in general, the bad guys seem pretty much invincible until almost the end.

3. The Ugly

Shortly after the start we get a very unpleasant torture scene, For some reason torture seems to have become popular in modern sci-fi. And there is a lot of gratuitous violence throughout the book. I guess some people must like this, but if you prefer to do without graphic violence and senseless killing you might want to avoid this book.
