Publisher's summary

Michael Gray grew up on a plantation in Virginia, and when he reached the age of 17, his father decided it was time to further his education and sent him to West Point. There, he excelled in his studies and was about to graduate when tensions began to escalate over the slavery issue.

Knowing that war would emanate, Michael was approached and asked to join the Union Army, his orders were to buy horses and at the same time spy on the Confederacy. During the course of the war, he was captured and sent to prison where he escaped after six months. As a reward for his excellent service, he was ordered to Denver to once again supply horses.

Join Michael as he tries to overcome his decision to join the Union instead of the Confederacy during and after the turbulent Civil War.

Would make the Duke proud to act in this story

Well, well, ain't this a tale fit for a rowdy saloon and a bottle of whiskey. Now, listen up, folks, 'cause ol' Rooster's got a story to spin 'bout this here audiobook called "The Blue Coat," penned by M. R. Carner and narrated by Brooks Corley.

Now, picture this: Michael Gray, a young feller growin' up on a fancy plantation in Virginia. All cozy and dandy, 'til his pa decides it's time to ship him off to West Point for some fancy book learnin'. Graduates with flying colors, he does, but just when he's 'bout to toss his cap in the air, them tensions over slavery start boilin' over like a kettle left on the stove too long.

Then, like a hawk swoopin' down, the Union Army comes callin', askin' young Michael to join up and play spy on them Confederate folks. Buy horses, they tell him, while keepin' an eye on them graycoats. War's in the air, and Michael's caught right smack in the middle, like a catfish in a whirlpool.

Captured he gets, and tossed into a dingy prison cell. But, like a sly fox, he don't sit still for long. Escapes that prison like smoke through a keyhole, he does. And what's his reward for such feats? A one-way ticket to Denver to wrangle up more horses. Seems the Union's got a taste for horseflesh and a soft spot for this Virginian lad.

Now, I reckon you're wonderin', what's all this got to do with a "blue coat"? Well, that there coat symbolizes more than just a fancy uniform. It's a symbol of loyalty, a clash of roots, and a nation tearin' itself apart. Michael's got a decision to chew on, like a piece of jerky that won't soften up. Union or Confederacy? Which side's he gonna pick? The South he's born into, or the Union he's sworn to?

The audiobook spins this yarn with Brooks Corley at the helm of the narratin'. He brings out the grit, the sweat, and the soul of them times. You'll feel like you're ridin' shotgun with Michael through them turbulent years, facin' the hardship of war and the turmoil of loyalties. It's like you're sittin' by a campfire, sharin' a bottle of sour mash with a grizzled ol' friend.

So there you have it, folks. "The Blue Coat" ain't just a tale 'bout horses and uniforms. It's a story 'bout a young man tryin' to find his way in a country comin' apart at the seams. So pour yourself a glass of the good stuff, kick back, and let ol' Rooster Cogburn recommend you give this audiobook a listen. It's a wild ride through history, and you might just find a piece of yourself in them pages.

The Blue Coat

This is a short western army type story. It's written good. This is my first book from M. R. Carner. If you like army western type books you should like it. Brooks Corley did a good job narrating this book. Brooks Corley is a great western narrator.

Old fashioned but welcomed style

Great western written in a terse style. Very well done. The action starts from the first page. Good story. The narrator is excellent. He actually sounds like a character from the 19th century.
