From USA Today best-selling author Marni Mann comes a gripping story about secrets, loss, and finding the better version of yourself in the wake of tragedy.

At forty-two, Jesse Black had the perfect life. Even after surviving her father’s passing, she still had everything she dreamed of—two beautiful children and a husband madly in love with her. She was the owner of one of the most successful shapewear companies in the country. There was even a white picket fence around their home in Vermont. But underneath all that sparkle, shine, and achievement, Jesse was harboring a secret. A secret that would rip their perfect family apart and alter their lives forever—if it was ever revealed.

A lot of audiobook friends have been talking about this book. I was lucky enough to have someone gift me this gem. I swear I did not have a clue going into this book what I was about to get. I am left with an open mouth and more questions. But also my mind is putting together all the pieces.

The book is put together in pieces of before and after and it does all make sense, I never was confused with the timeline. The story kept me guessing and wanting to know I didn’t want to pause it for any reason.

The last half of the book I had my own guesses and wow... Just wow. I think everyone needs to experience this for themselves.

The narration is out of this world phenomenal, they all do a fantastic job giving us these unique characters.

Wow...Just Wow

I can’t believe how much I feel like I have been left hanging. I know the ending, I anticipated it a little bit and thought I knew what was happening but now I need a sequel and there isn’t one?! I’m not sure how I feel about this. I need to talk about it and reflect and vent and ughhh. So much to say, so much to love. That narration was epic and a stellar cast. So perfect I felt like I was there. Great read.

Totally worth every second

Holy Crap this book was amazing and not what I was expecting at all! I thought I knew what was going to happen but was completely wrong! Jesse's story...woah and the end with Charlotte and Emory....is there another book??? I need more books like this one. Thanks for an awesome story!

I went into this book thinking I probably knew what to expect. WRONG!! It is a heart-wrenching, but well written story. BUT. I still have so many questions! The narration is fantastic! I want to give this 5 stars, but I feel like we're being set up for a sequel or we are left to infer our own meanings to certain things in the story so it just doesn't feel complete.

Suspenseful

It’s kind of a decent story with a nice little twist at the end. Nothing special or spell binding. It does require a lot of suspension of disbelief. The sex scenes in the book really don’t move the plot forward and I found them distracting.

I found the Charlotte character’s narration a bit annoying. No one talks in that breathy, uptalk manner.

Overall, the book is meh. If you’re bored and need some background noise it will do the trick.

I listened to the audio & loved it. In typical Marni fashion breadcrumbs are throughout the story but you are left questioning everything.
I just loved Jessie and Emory and their lives together. Charlotte as the assistant added another level of intrigue. There are so many layers to this story. I just love Marni’s books & her writing. You will not be disappointed !

Amazing story

I thought this book was terrible. Story of a picture perfect family -- wife has a big secret --- thought it would come full circle before the end.... hideous ending. Listening to it, the dialouge felt staged.... ugh.

One word... Insipid.

I’ll tell you what happened. IT ENDED and I wasn’t ready!! Not yeeeeet!!

Okay. So the book is fantastic as well as the narrators. But I sorta felt like I wanted to get to the actual problem statement a lot sooner than it did. Outside of that I thought it was grrreeeat! ❤️

What just happened?!

Excellent! I wasn’t sure where this was going and there are lots of hidden twists as you dive through the seemingly straight forward storyline. It’s definitely binge worthy! And Ohhhh that ending!

Great listen and oh that ending
