Story
Everything I’d known about the world was a lie. On my thirteenth birthday, I, Alcatraz Smedry (yes, I got named after a prison, don’t ask), received my inheritance: a bag of sand. And then I accidentally destroyed my foster parents’ kitchen. It’s not my fault, things just break around me, I swear! I thought the sand was a joke until evil Librarians came to steal it. You’re probably thinking, “Librarians are nice people who recommend good books,” but that’s just what they want you to think!

You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

A young, naïve but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals—in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg—whose true name is hidden from all he and Dunk encounter. Though more improbable heroes may not be found in all of Westeros, great destinies lay ahead for these two . . . as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits. Featuring more than 160 all-new illustrations by Gary Gianni, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a must-have collection that proves chivalry isn’t dead—yet.

Story
A thrill-seeking Harvard linguistics professor and an ultrasecret branch of the Catholic Church go head-to-head in a race to uncover the secrets of the lost city of Atlantis. The ruins of the technologically advanced, eerily enigmatic ancient civilization promise their discoverer fame, fortune, and power...but hold earth-shattering secrets about the origin of man. While world-famous linguist and archaeologist, Thomas Lourds, is shooting a film that dramatizes his flamboyant life and scientific achievements, satellites spot impossibly ancient ruins along the Spanish coast.

And then I accidentally destroyed my foster parents’ kitchen. It’s not my fault, things just break around me, I swear! I thought the sand was a joke until evil Librarians came to steal it. Crazy Epic Finale... or is it?
The off the wall adventure continues, and my 17 year old son and I have been really enjoying and honestly a bit hooked on this series! We've loved the quirky narrative biography style. This series is good for any age as long as they have a sense of humor and don't need things to go in a traditional fashion. Here's to hoping Alcatraz changes his mind and writes another book. 😉
The narrator does a fantastic job and really made it even more fun to listen to.
Parents- PG - elementary on up
Language- none
Violence- PG - torture, normal to genre violence and fighting, nothing very descriptive

Best author ever!!!
Amazing story, nobody does it better than Brandon Sanderson. A.k.a. Alcatraz Smedry. May this beautifully orchestrated autobiography help take down the evil librarians. And may Alcatraz never experience death by balefire. Such an act would be detrimental to the free kingdoms.

Well, thats that.
Would you consider the audio edition of The Dark Talent to be better than the print version?
This is an odd question, but luckily I both read it, and listened to it so I feel like I am in a great position to answer. Reading this one is better, the foot notes make the book pretty interactive and fun. I mean the narrator reads them, but it just is not the same.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dark Talent?
I would probably say the dedications.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Yes, mostly because I think Brandon Sanderson can do no wrong.
Any additional comments?
I will say it felt like the author was trying to reconnect with the character a lot in this book. It almost didn't go with the rest of the books, but managed to by the end. At the conclusion of the last chapter I almost through the book out the window and grabbed a pad of paper preparatory to some serious angry fan mail. However, then read how thankful he was to all his family and friends and my heart softened.

Exciting installment that builds towards the finale
I have enjoyed this series immensely. The jokes and creative tools that Sanderson toys with throughout all of the books is very refreshing and offers an interesting twist as a reader. Sanderson never fails to excels as a story teller in regards to storyline, characters, story progression, and tools of the trade. I am obviously a big fan and can go on all day about this. Anyways, this was a fun story and I look forward to the final installment, though it is not necessarily for the “weak of heart.” You’ve been warned.
Also, Mr.Sanderson. Brutal.

Death by ants. Death by aunts. Balefire!
There’s so much clever silliness in this whole series and this book doesn’t disappoint. There are tense moments and dark moments. More so in this book than the previous books. If you’ve gotten this far, you’re invested and will continue regardless—because of the massive cliffhanger! Argh!!
What I love the most about these books is that words aren’t really wasted. There are Easter eggs all around and if you’ve read his other books, you’ll know what I mean. But you have to pay attention, or listen more than once, like me! Also, since I’m around B. Sanderson’s age, all the little pop culture references and jokes really resonate with me. Things younger people will likely not understand or completely pass over. Since these books can be listened to with young children (also a HUGE plus—no profanity or sexual innuendo that make you rush to pause the book. Unless you count crapaflap nasty 😂), I will giggle at some joke and my kids are like, ‘What? What’s so funny??’
Anyway, on to the next book!
