Publisher's Summary

She's gonna get them all killed.

So they locked her away.

Laylea has been hiding her entire life. She's never been to school. She's never had a friend her own age. She's never known anyone else like her.

All that is about to change.

In a world hidden from humans and wyrdos alike, shifters are still recovering from a vicious plot to destroy them all. They have two laws they live by now:

1) Hide.

2) Protect the children at all costs.

Laylea has just broken rule number one. But she's only 14. So, they're sending her to school. Where she's going to learn....

Any place can be a prison.

The Lincoln Park Shifter School: not your grandma's uber-secret, underground academy.

Young or old you will enjoy this, well I did.

I got this audio book because I really like Gwendolyn style of writing then I saw it was meant to be for young adults (and being 40 not sure I count) but gave it a go anyway.....so glad I did, I really enjoyed the story and the performance was brilliant.

Things aren't normal in Laylea word not but a long shot but when you are friends with vampires and the boogy man what do you expect, but things take a turn for the worse when you can't control you powers and change in front of humans. So there is only one option go to school but not just any old school will do. Soon Laylea finds herself surrounded by other shifters (so many different animals represented at the school it was fun getting to know them and what they can do) but has she jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire because going to school could just kill her.

It also included a free sample for another book in this series which sounded interesting giving a back ground in to Laylea's home life and family , so I am off to add to my audio book collection.

Excellent Story!

I received this audio book for free in exchange for my honest review. The author and narrator are one and the same for this story and she does an impeccable job on both.

I am Team Wyrdos!!

Laylea is a shifter and this book follows her journey. I found this story captivating from the start. It is a fast and enjoyable read that I had a hard time putting down. The reader is introduced to numerous characters and uncommon paranormal creatures that are amazing and fun to learn about. The author does a fantastic job of world building and describing the environment and characters. The narrator did a superb job of bringing the story and character to life. I am completely invested in Laylea's story and am excited to see where the author takes us in the next book.

The first in a previous line

It was very hard to go along with this story, after sitting through it for a few hours I came to the realization that yes this is book 1 of shifter school but the story of Laylea has already been told in another story. I just wish that there was a quick recap of her backstory or that this one explained that this was another beginning of a new journey for her. If I knew all the backstory I am sure I would have thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Well crafted book

I like to listen to books while driving. So I appreciate that she did a good job introducing you to the characters without overburdening you with useless Information.
The book does have some violence in it. Which is to be expected with a book about Shifters. But I like the Way the author did not find it necessary to pack the book full of swearing or adult sexual contact.
For that reason I will not be embarrassed to buy a copy of the print version of this book for my teenage daughter. She loves paranormal books and has been looking for a new series to read, so I will highly recommend this one to her.
The author does an very good job in the narration of her book. Her voice is clear and gives many of the characters their own voices it was a pleasant listening experience.
Thanks again Gwendolyn for giving me a copy of the book to review

Solid start to a YA Fantasy series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a fun urban fantasy story that was definitely geared towards a younger audience but still enjoyable for any fan of the genre. I was pleasantly surprised to find the narration pretty good. I have had VERY mixed experiences with authors who narrate their own books, but she did a decent job. Granted, some of the better narrators, like Tess Irondale, would only enhance the experience, but she still made it an engaging listen. All in all, I would say this is worth a credit.

YA Fantasy.

I found this really slow going to begin with. It really did not capture my imagination at the begining because it was more of a character build up and I did find certain things hard to believe, but when the story got going it got better.

I would recommend this to YA who love fantasy.

The narrator who turned out to be the author I thought did a great job in voicing the characters out and I wouldn't mind listening to her other books.

A brilliant beginning to a new series

It's great to hear an author narrate their own work. Obviously the skills to write a novel are different to those who narrate but here we have someone with both skills. And it really works. Obviously the author know the work and their intent and this comes across.
We have a good main character and her brother and school friends are also really good solid characters.

We focus in this story on Laylea's first experience of a school having being in hiding all her life. I love how she's exposed to the shifter world first but then they have limited experience of the wider supernatural world which Laylea has lived in. The story itself hints at larger bad guys and we have some characters mentioned that I hope to see in the next book as they are set up well. It all comes across well with a good story and world and good characters.

Really good.
