Bruyor does it all

Author and Narrator, Bruyor brings this 6-book mystery/thriller to life. Great character development and story-line, I just hated that the primary evil "bad guy" keeps getting away. Don't worry, there's plenty of bad buys getting what's coming to them in each book, and our protagonists take some nasty beatings getting the job done. So, action, suspense and lots of twisting and turning in the plots make for a fun read/listen.

An exciting adventure series

The Killer on Call series is a fast-moving, comic adventure series about Tim, a killer with a conscience; Kissy, the girl he’s crushing on; and Avi, Kissy’s police officer boyfriend. Each of the stories starts off with a pulse-pounding scene from the middle of the story that draws you in with its high adrenaline. Then it goes back to the beginning and works its way to the end, making that intro scene seem different than it did the first time.

Each story is connected like episodes in a TV series with a season-long arc. Buying the set is like having a season pass to the KC’s adventures.

Tim is always prepared for his kills, and it’s his code never to kill an innocent. It never ends well for people who try to trick him into doing the wrong thing. Other characters include Tim’s sister Julia, an owner of a circus skills business who is recovering from a leg injury; Jessica the bartender; the mayor who is running for governor, though he doesn’t really want to be elected; and Vanessa, the big bad through the series.

This was all fun stuff, and I quite enjoyed myself. There were a few times that the timeline seemed jumbled to me, though. I wasn’t sure if the chapters were pieced together out of order or if that was a literary device to keep me guessing. In the end, I figured the author was trying to reinforce the disoriented feeling of the story.

The audiobook is performed by the author, but Gwendolyn Druyor is a professional narrator with excellent vocal talent. Her performances are always engaging.

Recommended for action/adventure fans who don’t mind a light love triangle attached to the mayhem.

Don't judge this book by it's cover

The author of a book also being the narrator is not always a good idea, but trust me, in this case IT IS!
Gwendolyn is an amazing narrator. Everything sounds just right.. emotions, humor, character distinction. It makes me so happy to listen to such a quality performance.

Now as to the writing.. Please don’t judge this series by the cover, it doesn’t do it justice.
It’s fun, well written, action packed, believable, entertaining and with heart. It packs a punch!
This series managed to get me engaged almost instantly. The characters felt real.
I loved the interaction between our 3 main characters, and I really enjoyed the situations they get themselves into.

Each of the 6 books in this bundle begins with a ‘teaser scene’ that takes place later in the story.
I liked this, it was fun to listen to and wonder how the heck they managed to get themselves in that particular situation. And as the books progressed it would make more and more sense.

There are 3 things that made the story’s a bit confusing for me at times (and keeping me from giving this bundle a full 5 star review)
Firstly, the fact that the stories aren’t always told in chronological order threw me off a bit, especially in the beginning (I’m not counting the first ‘teaser scene’, I liked that) Sometimes time would shift when there was a point of view switch. (all stories are told from the third person point of view of our 3 main characters)
Secondly, I sometimes had trouble following action scenes. Rewinding a bit and listening to it again helped.
Thirdly, I always have trouble remembering names, and during a specific chapter one of the main characters was suddenly called by his last name, while he was mostly referred to by his first name previously.
These 3 small issues lessened my enjoyment just a little bit, but it’s just as much due to my own flaws (bad memory, concentration) as to the writing.
I still enjoyed this book bundle a lot, it was a real surprise.
I would love to listen to more books written and/or narrated by Gwendolyn.

I got this Audio Book for free (thanks!). I'm voluntarily leaving this review.
Opinions and ratings are my own and not influenced by how I got the Audio Book.

Great Read

Killer on Call Series: Books One through Six was another great read by Gwendolyn Druyor. This book consists of: Ecstasy, Gin, Morphine, Valium, Pot and Absinthe. Tim is what they call a Killer with a Conscience. He takes care of bad people for a price. Tim winds up roping his dream girl, Kissy, and her boyfriend into his assignments. I really enjoyed listening to this book and loved Gwendolyn Druyor's writing and narration. I can’t wait to read more by the author.

Fast Paced Suspense Filled Series

I reviewed each book individually as well.
This is a fast paced suspense filled series and a thrilling journey! The characters are relatable and you can't help caring about them. There is action, suspense and lots of sarcasm. I highly recommend this series, it captivated me from start to finish and I had a hard time putting it down. The author who is also the narrator does a wonderful job bringing the story to life and I look forward to reading more by this Author.

Too much of a good thing?

I think I would have enjoyed this series better if I did not listen to the books back-to-back. Doing it this way, I was aware of some of the inconsistencies. (For instance, in the first book, Kissy was a cop. In subsequent books, it was never spoken of again.) I also got pretty tired of Vanessa, the bad guy.

Tim is the killer with a conscious, or the KC. In each book, he is given money to kill someone. Tim doesn't want to just kill anybody so he has to make sure the bad guy is really bad. Kissy is a childhood friend and gets involved along with Avi, who was a target in book one but turned out to be a good guy.

Kissy's love quandry (Tim or Avi?) took up way too much time in all six books and that was really distracting. (She was a bit of a pill and just needed to make a choice already.) Vanessa's presence in all six books was a great connector but how she was always coming out on top, when listening to back-to-back books, just made me angry. I mean, how many times can a would-be assassin keep getting bested?

I've had the pleasure of listening to several books narrated by Druyer, and even with my noted issues above, she delivers a great performance.

entertaining

Very suspenseful. I waited and anticipated the death of the villain with each book. I'm not sure about the ending, as I like it all spelled out for me. I think THEY made a great team, and Tim really had a lot of feels for the heroine. I liked the. mayor and hoped for the best. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life. It took me a while to get the characters from RA Steffan 's books out of my head because this author/narrator did them so beautifully, and I had to switch them off to get into this mindset. Great job.

Killer on Call

In this series we have an assassin that will only kill bad people since he has to keep his conscience clean. On top of that he is in love with a person who is taken by someone else. You have quite a bit of comic relief as well as some heart racing scenes that will keep you begging for more. I loved this series and can only hope more will be added in the future.

Series grew on me a little more with every book

Not a great series but it grew on me a little more with every book. It took me a little bit to get absorbed with this series but it was good enough to keep me listening. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.
