Pleasantly surprised

I have read most of Lisa Kleypas’ books and love almost all of them (a few exceptions). I wanted to start this series but resisted due to the negative reviews on the narration. I ended up picking it up when it was on sale so decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did! The narrator is not terrible! I didn’t mind her at all.

That being said…it is not my favorite but not at the bottom of my Kleypas books list either. Great premise but dragged a bit. I didn’t have any trouble putting it down to get things done, unlike most of her books when I stay up all night just to finish. I have the next two books ready to listen to but I also see they are about to be re-recoded by Rosalyn Landor. Not sure if I want to hold off of not yet.

In any case - don’t let the negative reviews of the narrator hold you back from giving this one a try.

A bit predictable

Author certainly tied up the outstanding bullet point for the storyline. No surprises there. No cliff hanger…no apparent sequel part 2. Yawn…

Good Plot and Mystery

I was not a huge fan of the hero in this one. In fact I really didn't like him until the end. I loved the story though and it keeps you guessing at the outcome.
It was steamy...but not as much as the 2nd and 3rd in the trilogy.

The Trilogy is worth it. The narration is not great - but deal with it - Susan D is back for the last 2 books.

Worth it!

Not my favorite Kleypas...

I accidentally started this series backwards and this novel was by far my least favorite. It was dull and way too descriptive about characters, to the point where I found myself zoning out. Also, I agree with the other members that the narration was not good nor consistent. I would skip right over this and start with Lady Sophias Lover!

Great Surprises and Narrator

I was worried about this one because of the reviews, but I LOVED the narrator. She’s much different than the audiobook voices that I’m accustomed to, but that change made the story feel more intense and fresh. The mysteries of the heroine are super fun. I only wish it hadn’t been the first in the series; it would have been fun to see Grant solving crimes and flirting with other women as a side character.

enjoyable.Tender love story with likeable characters.

Liked the pace of the noval. Did not have a bunch of psycobable verbage to develop realistic characters.

Ugh I just can’t with the narrator

The narrator is not good and her voice is not varied enough between characters. Wish I had just read the book.

No problems with the narrator

After reading many reviews about the narration of this book, I was hesitant. But I am glad I took the chance. I was very happy with the narration. I thought she did a wonderful job. She had just the right innocent sounding voice to read for Victoria.

I may have had a different view had I listened to the other books in this series first, because I hate it when they change narrators. But since this was the first book I listened to, it didn’t bother me a bit.

Also, I loved the story. I had read this book many years ago, but I had forgotten all the details. So it was like experiencing this book for the first time all over again.

I miss Susan Duerden!

I think this was another high quality effort from Lisa Kleypas - one of my favorites! I miss some of the lighthearted wittiness of others of her novels, but it was still very engaging. The narrator read well, but her voices for males hadn’t near the range of Susan’s renditions, and it seemed to lack some of the interpretive nuances. Worth a listen, but I hope we can get the previous narrator back for future releases!

Another great Lisa Kleypas story!

I love Lisa’s book. Great story lines. Steamy. This one was. I exception. I own every one of her regency books.
