A Duchy of Terra spin-off series

The mother, ruler of an entire world. Sent to the heart of an old enemy to build a new peace. The daughter, officer of a deadly warship. Sent to the darkness to find the new enemy hunting them all.

A dozen inhabited worlds of the Kanzi Theocracy and the A!Tol Imperium are ash. Millions of sentients of a dozen species are dead, including humans from the brand-new colonies built under the Imperium's watch. Despite the losses, the strange Taljzi fanatics have been defeated - but everything suggests that more will be coming.

The Empress of the A!Tol has resolved that the cold war between A!Tol and Kanzi must end. She sends Duchess Annette Bond to the heart of the Kanzi Theocracy to negotiate a new alliance.

Elsewhere, Bond's stepdaughter, Morgan Casimir, and the battleship, Bellerophon, are sent into the darkness beyond known space to see what they can learn about the Taljzi.

As they uncover old secrets of new enemies and new secrets of old enemies, the fate of humanity and five dozen other races hangs on the actions of mother and daughter alike!

What i expected

I found it weird that this now seems to be a different series from duchess of terra but I enjoyed the follow up from the last book. I’ve really enjoyed the series (and the pervious one) so far but I’m getting worried the books/story are starting to follow a pattern. I’m looking forward to the next book but if it stays in the same mold I might not be so quick to keep going.

Good book but very confusing series title

I cannot find "The light of Terra book 1". It appears they refer to The Dutchy of Terra book 4 as the book 1 but it is unclear. I messaged the Author on Facebook, but while he posts regularly, he didn't bother to reply.
The book is good, as good as the others. Not great, but a solid book.
Hillary Huber does a great job narrating this series.

Great story !

The author is awesome the story is great the performance superb . The quality of the download needs some work . I tried the cloud and two different devices . The last few chapters had issues . This is the first time audible has been less than the Best in this regard . To see audible to slip to better than most is disheartening .

Great Story and Wonderful to See Representation

I have been enjoying this series very much indeed. The narrator is engaging and has a great facility for the clicks necessary for the alien names. The story continues to be entertaining. I was also very pleased to see Glynn Stewart's efforts to include diverse characters, including a same sex relationship for one of the protagonists. Indeed, I appreciate that not every main character is straight and white. More sci-fi could take notes on that.

Why do we have to go full progressive in sifi?

4 of the 8 or 9 council are gay or lesbian. All relevant leaders are female. So far 1 of 5 of the children are bi/gay? Do you have to push it this far?

Gay relationship takes center stage

I do not relate to gay relationships, in the previous books they were overshadowed by Stewart's awesome storytelling, but in this one the story starts and ends with Morgan's lesbian relationship with the lovers subject in much of the body of the book, not to be narrow minded, but I personally cannot relate to this, and consider this book a wasted credit and this series a loss

Another victory for PC Culture.

Sadly this is the last book in the series I will purchase. The series started off strong with a well thought out universe and an interesting premise. As the series has grown the emphasis on Politically correct think and diversity has taken up more and more page time.

Pros:
interesting tech. interesting political interactions between species. 1st generation characters ( the dutchess, admiral and wellsly ) had interesting character arc's.

Cons: repeating the nationality/race/ skin color of nearly every human character EVERY TIME. Truly cringworthy lesbian relationship that reads like a copy and pasted section of a technical manual. Main Character is a Mary Sue. it started off subtle, but by the time we reached this book its painful. The claim that western culture is responsible for "keeping the African continent down " and other jabs at wester culture.

I found it interesting that there was very little mention of North America and there was an emphasis on Chinese / communists parties. its an interesting angle to take and a bit refreshing, but when combined with the overall PC tone and the digs at western culture it becomes too much.

I hope the author can back away from the PC cliff and get back to writing a truly interesting military sci-fi series. until I see that reflected in the comments I won't be listening to another book in this series.
