Publisher's Summary

Before he was an Elfin Lord - before he even joined that secret group of Mages - Jamie Riley was a Mage recruited by the FBI and the Office of Supernatural Policing and Investigation. A new-minted Inspector sent into one of the most complicated supernatural regions in the country: Los Angeles.

The rest of OSPI’s LA team has grown comfortable with allowing politics and pragmatism to decide which cases they pursue, which criminals they charge - but when Jamie’s investigation suggests that a pillar of the supernatural community has killed in cold blood, he will let nothing get in the way of getting the murderer.

Not even his career.

A bite size masterpiece as usual

This series is my absolute favorite. I was bummed as it appears Glynn Stewart is only going to make 4 of the main series books. I jumped for joy when I saw this one pop up. Masterful as ever. When you pair a great series with the all time best narrator out there? Brilliance.

Surprisingly gripping.

Short but action packed. Jamie is one of the good guys and a magic, working for a magical agency fresh out of recruiting. He’s sharp and by the book.
Cracking his first case could get him killed.
I highly recommend this brilliant short story, it’s a doozy.

Liked it and think I may start the series

Overall found this mini intro to be very entertaining. Enough so that I will want to get the first book in the series and try it out.

Great short

This is probably my second favorite short story ever after baron steel as far as sci-fi and fantasy goes and ray porter is brilliant As always I routinely use it as a bedtime story it’s a good story and raise voice has some calming hypnotic affect despite the plot that allows me to fall asleep fairly quickly listening to it. At the same time if you’re awake and not tired you can listen to the story a couple times in a row it’s one of glynn’s best

the story is mediocre at best.

The characters are two dimensional. The female characters are poorly depicted and the racial stereotypes were un welcomed.

My first dive into this universe! Loved it!!

Everything was good, not too long, enough to tell the story. I definitely want more of this world!

A New Super Hero

I'm normally a military sci-fi guy, but this super natural special agent stuff was pretty cool. And you can't go wrong with Ray Porter...pure gold! More please!

Good, but quick

This was a great story, though it was over quickly. Give it a listen.

Dragnet meets Magic!

Well narrated story. The plot had so many twists and turns that it will keep you guessing until the end.

meh

This story had tons of promise but unless this was just a trailer it's woefully unfunished. Soooo many threads left undeveloped and the ending is super anticlimactic. Go finish it Glynn, and tell me when you're done-- I'd be happy to give it another go.

So glad I tried this.

I admit that I only tried this because it was free but I am really glad that I did. Now I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the series.

That was all right

Pretty good little story. Quite bureaucratic though. When I enter into contemporary magical stories I like comedy or fantasy, not just straight forward policy and officers of the law. I might check out the book series though.

A good start to a new story

I've been looking for a new genre of stories to start following, and because I like the narrator on my previous reads I decided to give this ago. Being free also helped. For story, easy to follow and as ever great narration by Ray Porter. I will certainly be looking for more in this series

A great prequel to a series.

This is a bit of a different genre for me and I really enjoyed this story- enough that I plan to listen to more. Murder by Magic is exactly what this is about. An introduction to OSPI and the supernatural policing
Ray Porter is always good value for money as a narrator, he makes the implausible feel very real and brings the characters to life. The writing was good: fluid and imaginative with good pacing and an interesting cast of characters.

very generic

it was okay, nothing new and a bit obvious in places. Narrator had a dull voice.

Narrator’s voice too old

I was left with many questions at the end of this short story. I kept losing track of what was happening because I was always thinking how old is Jamie? He is supposed to be young? Really? How does he know all this stuff? And the voice kept throwing me off because it is that of an older man, very sure of himself
Ray Porter gave a good performance and my rating is no reflection of this but voice inappropriate for the story

Good but under developed world building

By the end of the book, I still had trouble identifying names to characters. I have no feeling of how the rules of the world work.

Obviously not much can be achieved in a small story but something should be achieved to get me hooked for the next book.

After this short story, I don't feel like investing in it more.
