Publisher's summary

Captured by raiders to be sold as a slave, Sofea narrowly escapes their ship and finds herself stranded on the shores of Israel. Bargaining her way to a city of refuge, she finds herself in an even more dangerous situation. Can she find safety in this city of strangers, accept their God as hers, and be satisfied with His justice instead of her own?

The daughter of a pagan high priest, Sofea finds solace from her troubles in the freedom of the ocean. But when marauders attack her village on the island of Sicily, she and her cousin are taken across the sea to the shores of Canaan.

Eitan has lived in Kedesh, a City of Refuge, for the last 11 years, haunted by a tragedy in his childhood and chafing at the boundaries placed on him. He is immediately captivated by Sofea, but revealing his most guarded secret could mean drawing her into the danger of his past.

As threats from outside the walls loom and traitors are uncovered within, Sofea and Eitan are plunged into the midst of a murder plot. Will they break free from the shackles of the past in time to uncover the betrayal and save their lives and the lives of those they love?

Yahweh values each of us and desires only to cherish and protect us…sometimes from ourselves.

The reader did not vary her voice when switching between characters. This would have been better with the addition of a male voice the varied his voice with the male characters.

Book 2 of 3- excellent

I enjoyed the continuation of the first story, it’s fun to follow the characters to a new season of life and tie in the new adventures. This author is excellent in keeping you engaged from chapter to chapter not wanting to stop reading. With both of these books, I read in a couple days to find out what was happening next. Enjoyed the historical references and details that caused me to research some of the places and laws on my own as well. Excellent, easy, fun read to step into a new world.

Please please choose a different narrator

The narrator really hurts the story. It’s difficult to tell when Aton was speaking because of her feminine high Voice (he’s a manly soldier!)and the way she pronounces her e’s and s’s is enough to drive a person mad. But I love the books! Needs a new narrator.

Too many I perspectives

Originally the woman speaks in first person, then the man, then back and forth. The story and narration both take a minute to follow who is speaking. Makes the listener work to follow instead of enjoying the story.
