Publisher's Summary

"Narrator Susan Bennett offers a moving performance of this multilayered story of two women whose lives are affected by a WPA mural...Portraying Morgan, Bennett's voice has a tone of artistic sensitivity. When Anna's life spirals out of control, she adds feverish intensity. For the locals, Bennett superbly delivers a languid Southern drawl. Overall, Bennett adds an exciting dimension to a gripping story of racism, madness, murder, and even romance." (AudioFile magazine, Earphones Award winner)

From best-selling author Diane Chamberlain comes an irresistible new novel in Big Lies in a Small Town.

North Carolina, 2018: Morgan Christopher's life has been derailed. Taking the fall for a crime she did not commit, she finds herself serving a three-year stint in the North Carolina Women's Correctional Center. Her dream of a career in art is put on hold - until a mysterious visitor makes her an offer that will see her released immediately. Her assignment: restore an old post office mural in a sleepy southern town. Morgan knows nothing about art restoration, but desperate to leave prison, she accepts. What she finds under the layers of grime is a painting that tells the story of madness, violence, and a conspiracy of small town secrets.

North Carolina, 1940: Anna Dale, an artist from New Jersey, wins a national contest to paint a mural for the post office in Edenton, North Carolina. Alone in the world and desperate for work, she accepts. But what she doesn't expect is to find herself immersed in a town where prejudices run deep, where people are hiding secrets behind closed doors, and where the price of being different might just end in murder.

What happened to Anna Dale? Are the clues hidden in the decrepit mural? Can Morgan overcome her own demons to discover what exists beneath the layers of lies?

5++++🌟

This book is fantastic! It’s one of those books where All of the details are so vivid you can see everything the author conveying in words. Another review described as depressing but Theres absolutely nothing that left me depressed. I was fully engaged and was happy with the resolution! I finished much too fast. I highly suggest this book ...narrator is spectacular 😉

Great book!

This is a wonderful story. I am not going to go into what it's all about because the book description does that just fine. My mind was going in all directions trying to figure out what was going on.
I was not a big fan of Lisa. I was ready for someone to just tell her off.

That ending?? Why a cliffhanger with that part of the story? Will we ever know? Is it a lead in to another book maybe?

Narrator Susan Bennett is as wonderful as usual. I love a narrator who can do both male and female voices and it not even occur to you that they are doing a voice of the opposite sex.

The Best

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed all of Diane Chamberlain's books, I can easily say that this my favorite. The narrator, Susan Bennett, is amazing (as always!) and is the perfect voice for this story. You won't be disappointed. Just click "purchase" and you will have yourself a story that you can go back to time and time again, one that you can get lost in and just enjoy. I won't summarize the story line, as Audible does a great job in that arena. All I will say is that the pieces of the story wrap together at the end in a perfect way that only Chamberlain can create.

Oh how I’ve missed you both!!!

Diane, you have done it again! FANTASTIC book with a wonderful flowing dialogue. No stone left unturned and nothing felt rushed. I have said it before and I will say it again, Susan Bennett needs to read ALL of DC’s books. She makes all of the characters come to life without going overboard. You are never wondering who is speaking and you never cringe when the characters change. I will listen to anything this duo puts out. Read/listen to this one.. you won’t be disappointed!

Mystery is easy but emotionally compelling listening. The voice work is excellent and feels accurate to the work.

big lies in a small town

one of the best books I've listened to in very, very, long time.. I will be looking to hear more of Diane Chamberlain books and or listen to to any books with the narrator Susan Barrett. I felt like I was there, watching a movie listening to this book. I couldn't stop listening. it was so emotional, the characters in the book were awesome to the end. I will recommend this to others to read. whomever disliked this book didn't listen to it all the way through. or whether this book is fiction or not. these are things everyone has gone through and probably still have to go through maybe not to the extreme they did in that era but prejudism is still out there unfortunately . but the strength and courage that was displayed in this book. I loved!

Sorry When It Ended

This audible book has everything I love in a story: realistic people, romance, and mystery. Diane Chamberlain is a master at developing a saga and creating its characters. Susan Bennett always provides a perfect voice and gives a believable performance. I could have spent more time in Edenton with Anna, Morgan and Oliver and was sorry when this book came to an end. I hope there is a sequel.

LOVE LIVE LOVE IT!!

This is one of those books that will be a keeper. The worst part of the book was that it ended. The writing sucks you in and you fall in love with all the characters. I couldn’t put it down. It’s been awhile that I enjoyed a book this much. Now to find my next read? It’s like a hangover

Fantastic as always

Again Diane Chamberlain nails it. Great story line as always. She never disappoints. I’ve alway read Dianes books physically but because audible was out in Ireland before the book I pre ordered it, and can I say Susan Bennett is amazing as narrator. Truely wonderful.
