Widowed Euodia, known to her neighbors as "the Lydian woman," seeks to make a fresh start by moving to the foreign city of Philippi. She finds new purpose after meeting Paulos, apostle to the Gentiles, who opens her eyes to helping those in need, particularly women and those who have been enslaved.

Retired Roman soldier Hector has settled in Philippi with dreams of a future filled with wealth and status, pooling his army earnings with Lucius, his fellow comrade in arms turned business partner. His hopes are dashed, however, when Paulos robs their youngest slave of her lucrative ability to foretell the future, rendering her worthless to Hector's ambition.

When Euodia becomes aware that Sabina is being mistreated, she buys Sabina from Lucius, intending to set the girl free. But when Hector claims the sale was not legitimate, he takes Sabina back and swears he will find someone to restore her valuable "gift" . . . even if he must travel to the ends of the earth to do so. Following close behind him, Euodia and her servants set out to rescue Sabina, not for gain, but to rescue and set her free forever.

In her stirring series starter, New York Times bestselling author Angela Hunt dives into the perilous days of the early church as Christians struggle to remain true to their faith amid the highest of risks in a hostile pagan culture.

I look forward to Angela Hunt's books. I can enjoy and learn by researching peuces of biblical information, history, and/or cultural beliefs. I'm always disappointed when the book ends. Thank you, Ms. Hunt.

I love biblical fiction, and this story was a creative one that included several biblical characters woven into an entertaining story. Good job! 🥰

I love all of Angela Hunts books. God and Jesus are at the Heart of all her books and Rachel Bachen is an amazing reader. She makes you feel like you are right there in the story. I hate when the stories end.

I wish all of Angela Hunts books were made in to movies

This book was fantastic! I loved it so much! I highly recommend it! I am not one for romance books, but I must admit the love story between Uodia and Eristan was my favorite part! (I do not know if I spelled those 2 names correctly.) I also love that this book was about something that happened in the Bible (the girl healed of an unclean spirit by Paul). This was so well written!

I loved this book!

It was very exciting. I felt like I was there in that time. I also enjoyed how she wove the actual accounts of the Bible. Can’t wait to hear the next book. Enjoy very much. Helped me to see what slaves went through. Very eye opening.

Angela Hunt is a relatively new author to me. Before I get started reviewing the book, the narrator was outstanding.

Euodia is widowed and becomes a maker of purple. The process of making purple was amazing to me. She purchased a slave to free her, as she does with all hers slaves. Sibon, the slave is a young girl and once was possessed by demons. There are many twists, many of them pleasant revelations throughout the story. Euodia is a believer and guided by the Spirit. This story gives a marvelous and realistic look at customs during this time. I also enjoyed the relationship between Euodia and her steward. I can’t do justice in this review.

If you enjoy Biblical fiction, this is definitely an author you will enjoy. I’m looking forward to the next in the series and also catching up on all her books I’ve missed.

I loved the story and the historical references. I’m much more inclined to books that really point towards Jesus and I’m so grateful that books like Angela’s exist. Keep on writing! It’s such a blessing!

Absolutely Womderful

A little longer ending would have been good that finished the story in Philipi - unless there’s a sequel 😊

The narrator always delivers well!
