Publisher's summary

After being branded during the battle of Jericho, Moriyah has had no prospects for marriage - until now. She hopes to please the man, but things go horribly wrong and she is forced to flee for her life. Seeking safety at one of the Levitical cities of refuge, she is unprepared for the dangers she faces, and the enemies - and allies - she encounters on her way.

Seven years ago, Moriyah was taken captive in Jericho and branded with the mark of the Canaanite gods. Now the Israelites are experiencing peace in their new land, but Moriyah has yet to find her own peace. Because of the shameful mark on her face, she hides behind her veil at all times and the disdain of the townspeople keeps her from socializing. And marriage prospects were out of the question...until now.

Her father has found someone to marry her, and she hopes to use her love of cooking to impress the man and his motherless sons. But when things go horribly wrong, Moriyah is forced to flee. Seeking safety at one of the newly-established Levitical cities of refuge, she is wildly unprepared for the dangers she will face, and the enemies - and unexpected allies - she will encounter on her way.

Story good, but narrator not so much

I really like this author but using this narrator to tell the story makes it a difficult listen. How she say Yahweh always makes me want to laugh.

Hope

Beautiful story of faith, hope, love and redemption. My second book by author and not my last to read/listen to.

Mercy

Enjoyed the book very much. If you like to cook, you would probably enjoy this book more.

Story good, narrator annoying.

Good story, but I think it's my least favorite of the series, partly b/c of the story and so much "running", but mostly b/c of the narrator, who pronounces Yahweh as it if rhymes with "bleh" (and other names seem mispronounced as well), and who can't seem to read a sentence or finish a thought without pausing and taking a breath. Super annoying.

Marvelous!

This book is an awesome spin off from the Out of Egypt series. Cossette is a gifted author and not only encourages through her words, but also educated the reader about the Bible and Jewish culture.

My only criticism is the narrator Rachel Botchen. I have enjoyed books from her in the past, however, she mispronounced Yahweh and Moriyah throughout the book. It’s imperative for a narrator to research and understand pronunciations for a book series or a spin off. In book three from the Out of Egypt series Moriyah’s name was pronounced as “Mariah” and not “Maria”. This irritated me throughout the book and is an egregious oversight.

I look forward to the next book in the series.

Great Story!

This was a really good, historical novel, relevant to biblical times. I love to listen to Rachel Botchan narrate a book.

Different Voice Talent

The voice talent changed many pronunciations from the last book series. It made me cringe every time. She may have been saying correctly BUT it was difficult to follow the characters that came from the last series because I did not recognize them. the main characters name was the worst.

Engaging

Once again another beautiful and thrilling and engaging story that connects the OT history to amazing characters.
