Character Arc Perfection!

If you could sum up Creating Character Arcs in three words, what would they be?

Character analysis mastery!

What other book might you compare Creating Character Arcs to and why?

There are dozens of books on character building, but this book shows how your character faces the challenges in your story.

Have you listened to any of Sonja Field’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I heard the voice of Sonja Field.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

This book equipped me with the tools necessary to help my characters fulfill their purpose in my novels.

Any additional comments?

Before you publish your novel, read this book!

Great content

Sometimes I feel like I'm listening to an automated voice the way she reads.

Best writing book I've read.

I'm so thankful for this book. The information was clear and understandable, there were a lot of examples and I loved the question at the end of each chapter. They made me think as I was listening and ultimately saved my novel from the trash folder (figuratively, I'd never actually toss it out permanently.)
There is a lot of repeated information from Structuring Your Novel, but I read this one first, and now that I have read that one I think this is ultimately the better book. I can't wait until the workbook is released.

flat arc characters

If all the books on screenwriting and writing in general that I have read, this is the only book that covers flat arc characters. worth reading for that alone.

Look no further wannabe writers.

This and Weiland's book on story structure have been the most useful tools on writing I have yet to find.

Weiland lays it out clear as day. Knowing how to structure my story and characters has given me loads more confidence regardless if I am outlining or discovery writing.

I'm a beginner writer so I am unsure how useful this particular book would be to the more experienced. If anything I would recommend Weiland's books on story structure if one had to pick between the two.

Sonja Field does a great job with the narration and it feels like your hearing it read straight from the author.

Overly formulaic

While there were some good ideas and some good advice in this book, the points that were made and many of the examples seemed contrived.

Disappointed

I was disappointed with this book and felt that it was covering the same points used in some of her other books. I chose to get an audio version of this book too, I felt the reading performance was below par for two reasons: 1. it was read much too fast, 2. it didn't feel like the reader had engaged with the factual content, and was just reading it to get through it, not to communicate with the listener. I've abandoned this audio book at 30% as I can't spend another 3 hours listening to this reader. I will probably dip into the kindle book for the rest of the content.
