I’m going to listen again… and again…

If you want to take the mystery out of writing a great screenplay, this is the book for you. It lays the steps out so simply while using a variety of movie examples throughout that clearly illustrate what the author is explaining. I’m going to start listening to it again right away. I also bought the physical copy in order to flip through and reference things as needed. It has great exercises you can do as well. Can’t recommend this enough.

His theory about story structure is super helpful for the writer. Focusing on these hero goal, sequences for each act will definitely help my writing. He also goes through the whole range of structural elements, character development, dialogue, and more. A must read.

Another Formula Book

Although structure is essential to good storytelling, banal cut and paste instructions are not what this book is about. I’m excited for anyone who reads and puts into practice this combination of structure and art. I have read many books on structure, and this one is among the better of them. Take what helps and leave the rest. I guarantee you will take a lot more than you leave.
