    "Near perfect message, imperfectly delivered."

There is great wisdom in the AA Big Book. I encourage anyone interested in AA or any other 12th step program to listen to it (as well as read it). In truth, I must agree with some of the criticisms of the reader, who sounds a bit like a radio advertisement at times. But you can get used to it and just listen to the content. Do not deprive yourself of the insights of this book simply because the reader is not ideal - accept the imperfect reading and gain the wisdom the book provides.

    "Good book for everyone!"

I'm not an alcoholic, but I think everyone has addiction to some degree. This book was tremendously helpful to me in facing my own challenges. It's principles are the power to become happy and successful.

    "Painful at best!"

Let's face it, while the BB is key to AA success for us alcoholics, it's a tough read. So I bought this audio to help me focus as I read the text. This is the worst Audible production I've ever heard. The Presenter would have been nigh on intelligible were I not reading along. He also missed words, used the wrong word and mispronounced far too many words. FYI, Dr. Jung is not pronounced with a hard "J". Truly disappointing and not worth the money. This is the only time I've ever been disappointed by an Audible product.

"Agree with all the other reviews - Narration :("
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The narration is really awful. PLEASE re-do this, audible.com!!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jason McCoy?

    ANYONE!!

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    The material itself!

    Any additional comments?

Please re-record with an actual AA member!

"Lousy rendition of a great book"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Have a talented reader and read the complete book.

What didn’t you like about Jason McCoy’s performance?

McCoy is unable to pronounce many ordinary words. He doesn't seem to understand what he's reading

    Any additional comments?

I love the AA Big Book. This is not the complete Big Book and it is not well read.

    "This Book Provides Your Grounding"
Would you listen to Alcoholics Anonymous - Big Book - Original Edition again? Why?

I listen to this when I am in trouble and need a meeting but there isn't one. I enjoy listening as well as reading. If I have a drive, I will turn it on in the car. I could listen to the Big Book every day, although I don't. I am never tired of it, or going to meetings.

What did you like best about this story?

The program of the Twelve Steps is a miracle. It is a clear path to healthy living and a healthy spiritual life. Most of us, by the time we find the Twelve Steps, are broken even if we don't know just how broken. Alcohol is deadly, as are other emotional conditions. The Twelve Steps are a way out of hell, of our own making/thinking, and into living a better life.

Which character – as performed by Jason McCoy – was your favorite?

    N/a

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

The people who are fortunate enough to recover are those who are honest with themselves.

    Any additional comments?

The AA program is adaptable to all fallings and losses. Working it can only help you become a more compassionate human being willing to help others.

    "AA as a Religion"

Coming from a person who does not drink and have no history of Alcoholism, I found the Big Book to be interesting because we all know someone that always have a few too many. After reading this book, I now understand why people go to meetings and talk about their addiction openly.

AA is a religion that someone practice to find the truth and to keep on the path of sobriety.

Unlike Christianity and other religions, Alcoholics Anonymous have more devoted followers, because it is a lifestyle that one choose to keep and they more dedicated in trying to remain clean, by going to meetings, than paying tithes to a church. Most people who concur their addictions, wants to sponsor others to defeat their battles and making a lifelong friendship with a common ground.

On a personal note, I have friends that attend meetings on a weekly or daily bases and because of them, I wanted to know more about the Big Book. If you are reading this book and don't have a drinking problem, read this book as many short stories on one main theme.

The narrator is pretty bad. He seems like a telemarketer or an auctioneer, talking very loud in your ears.

"Great Book..The reading performace, not so much"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I will recommend this book to people when it comes out with a more listenable reading performer. It is a great book and deserves a far better presentation.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jason McCoy’s performances?

    I dont think so.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Maybe

    Any additional comments?

Please get a better reader for this great book. Sorry....
