So wonderful to have an audio version of such a helpful book for families and friends of alcoholics. Read by members of Al-Anon just like at a meeting!

A needed audio book

Any additional comments?

This book is very helpful. The audio is not professionally polished but I like that many different members' voices come together in this audio book. It makes for a feeling of connection with the many people that are walking through similar experiences.

Very helpful

I can relate many of the narratives in the book. It is very emotional and touched deeply my soul. The little bits and pieces of the stories, the hopes for all of those individuals made me to realize ...I am not alone! I have a right, and I can make a decision of my own life! To the better future, I just need to make the first and most difficult step, to GET HEP. It is true! The path will be not easy, will be bumpy with ups and downs...but worth it!

The only problem I had, some of the recordings were difficult to hear.

We don't need to struggle! The path is there to recover!

If you could sum up How Al-Anon Works for Families and Friends of Alcoholics in three words, what would they be?

Real help is available

What did you like best about this story?

Could relate on many levels. Applies to many situations. Logically organized. Lets you know what to expect from a meeting, as well as how to apply help to your own situation, no matter what it is. Covers a lot of ground.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Anonymous members of Al-Anon Family Groups?

ANYBODY that is a professional book narrator in a real studio!!! Think Barbara Rosenblatt would be great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened for hours, and went back to listen to parts of it over again. This is the kind of book that you can listen to multiple times and get a lot more info from at each hearing.

Any additional comments?

I understand that they wanted to use "real people/members," so that it would be more relatable and honest. But frankly, the recording quality suffers enormously, and many of the narrators are too stilted. I ended up downloading it again at the highest recording quality and it still took me a long time to be able to stop wincing at the poor audio quality. It is frankly sometimes difficult to hear, especially since I like to listen while driving. I am spoiled by the quality of professional audiobooks, I realize. But this is one area where I feel that Al-Anon needs to break down and turn something this important over to professional book narrators and sound engineers. Still, the material itself is invaluable, and I will be listening to this again and again. I hope others will also petition Al-Anon to re-do this professionally, and to release more Conference Approved Literature in audio formats. They are sorely behind the times in making material available in electronic and audio formats.

Worth it, even though it needs pro recording!
