Publisher's Summary

A devastating plague continues to rage through the land of Muirwood, and all hope is laid at the feet of the young woman Lia. Called as a magical protector, Lia volunteers to embark on one last quest to rescue the knight-maston Colvin - her great love - and his pupil, the alleged heir to the fallen kingdom of Pry-Ree. Undaunted by injuries, Lia sets off across land and sea warning the kingdom of the great plague that is upon them. The arduous journey leads her to the doors of Dochte Abbey, where her friends are supposedly held. However, a fallen enemy lies in wait for Lia, as well as an unbearable new truth. The revelation will pit Lia’s deepest desires against the fate of her enchanted world.…

Fantastically epic and at all times engaging, The Scourge of Muirwood is a monumental finale to the Muirwood Trilogy.

"Good series, have read all 6"
If you could sum up The Scourge of Muirwood in three words, what would they be?

    enticing, exciting, integral

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the story lines, so close to so much of our own peoples history, struggles, triumphs, and the ongoing fight between good and evil. It never comes by just getting everything handed to the people; character is never developed by living the life of Riley. The characters are well developed and are taken through a series of challenges, experiences, choices and relationships that teach them to grow up and become men and women of good character. The stories give good examples of how character is developed through the challenges and experiences we face in life. I love how the books give indications of gospel truths, principles of truth through out as the fight with good and evil wages and how truth can be twisted and used for evil. Alluding to the growth that comes by learning how to follow the spirit of God, (the medium) and how to discern the spirits that attempt to influence our lives for good and for evil. I was captured by the story lines and the characters.

Which character – as performed by Kate Rudd – was your favorite?

Loved them all, the good guys and the bad guys, great performance; I was inspired to look into some of her other works, did not care for some of the other stories but I am reading the Mermaids sister. I would look at and peruse anything Jeff has written and Kate has performed.

    Any additional comments?

I am an avid reader, of all kinds of genre, and I will say, I was grateful to read such good stories that let you know the man and woman were going to marry and be intimate, without having to read through or skip the details. I really appreciated the respect and trust the characters develop in their relationships without having to read about their genitals or the sex. I know some people like that kind of thing, and I am not a prude, but I prefer the stories without having to enter into the bed chamber. I would recommend these books to my nephews and nieces for reading as well, I believe they would enjoy them.

    "Ok conclusion to trilogy"

A bit of a disappointment after the second book. I really enjoyed the first half of this book. I found the ending a bit forced. Kat Rudd does a good job in the narration. Obviously worth the read if you have read the first two books.

    "Big Disappointment!"

I really liked Jeff Wheeler's trilogy with the Kings Poisoner, so I thought I would give the Muirwood trilogy a shot. The story started out ok but the writing was stilted and awkward. The story got more and more needlessly convoluted and many of the characters seemed flat. By the time I got to the second book I could hardly maintain my interest, and the third book was unfinishable. Not recommended. If I had read this series first I would never have tried the Kings Poisoner - which is vastly more interesting and better written. Skip the Muirwood series and read the Kings Poisoner instead.

Series had promise, but failed utterly in the last book. Character development stalled and things just became ridiculously juvenile

    "The Last of the Trilogy"
What made the experience of listening to The Scourge of Muirwood the most enjoyable?

Kate Rudd's performance was awesome, as usual. She is so good that time just flies by.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Scourge of Muirwood?

Lia in the Lair. Very exciting, an "on the edge of your seat" experience.

What about Kate Rudd’s performance did you like?

She so capable and articulate. I find myself wishing I had a list of her work and then find stories in that list that I might like.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really, unlike the others in this series. I was just wanting to get to the end.

Great story and superb narration. A rare combination in audiobooks. I've listened to the whole story twice and probably will again sometime.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Scourge of Muirwood?

This review is for the whole series of books.

Which character – as performed by Kate Rudd – was your favorite?

    Lia and Martin

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this series very much. Many people criticize this book for many things. Christian references, negative against women, and poor writing. I did not find any of these to be true.I am Christian, so it was kind of fun to have the references, but almost all of them are Old Testament references other than the main character. It's just a story, and God in these stories, is a very hands-on God. That is to be expected in a book about magic tho.The Medium (which would be the Holy Spirit) from what I can tell was neither masculine or feminine. But truly, the evil character was feminine. But also, the main character, who was very strong, was feminine too. (So tit for tat no pun intended)I found it to move along nicely, but I would've liked to increase the pacing in the last book. The narration was absolutely perfect. Kate rocks!!!!!!!!!!

I would say that the love story needs to be a little bit more passionate. But to be fair-- because it wasn't so passionate-- I would highly recommend this book to teenagers, because it is so interesting.I did enjoy it so much, so I am definitely going to check out his Kingfountain books. So many writers nowadays love to take you to the bottom and rip out your heart, for shock factor, and maybe clean up the story afterwards so you will finish the book. This author, however, put a nice bow-tie on the end of it. It could easily lead to a whole new series, and he did not go there that I'm aware of.

    "Loved this series"

Jeff Wheeler is a breath of fresh air in my hunt for good fantasy books! I really am such a picky reader... all too often I put books down before the second chapter because of poor writing technique, voice, weak story line or ridiculous over-telling narratives. I found none of this here. Jeff's books were very enjoyable and for once I didn't put a book down in disappointment. I really enjoyed the story, the characters and the style of writing. Very well done!

The story so immersive, the characters so familiar and real means you live this story from beginning to end. I miss Lia, Pasqua, Soa all of them and am a little less for their loss.
