It's Aleron Kong & Nick Podehl narrating...

What made the experience of listening to The Land: Catacombs the most enjoyable?

I love the way Aleron Kong writes... so the stories themselves would be good enough for me... but when you throw in Nick Podehl's narration? It's just this combination that makes you feel like you cant get enough...

What other book might you compare The Land: Catacombs to and why?

I'm new to LITRPG's and The Land is really the first one I've gotten into...

Which character – as performed by Nick Podehl – was your favorite?

Probably the main character Richter... since he has to be such a strange read sometimes... he goes from talking all medieval to talking about goofy 2010 nerd culture stuff. So much fun.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The series has definitely been built up for me... there's such a high level of excitement inside me as I listen just because I know how good it's going to be because I've been so pleased with the previous 3 books. The majority of the book makes me laugh.... it hasnt made me cry yet.

Any additional comments?

Mary Sue watch out, Richter is in town!

First of let me say that the story itself, the world, the concepts, the side characters, everything else in this series is great.

I gave this series 3 extra tries knowing full well that each book was cut in half to sell more of them. The main character is absolute trash. I've never hated a main character more. Doesn't grow or develop. No changes as experience is acquired. Nothing. The same childish awkward humor as the first book and outdated "how goes it my fellow teenagers" style of comedy. It takes place in the future but references 2010's, so the main character is also a hipster douchbag.

All the characters "selfless" motivations are thinly veiled excuses to be greedy, power hungry, and self centered. Never learning from mistakes and not accepting responsibility. A flash of morality to show he's a deep thinker then boom, doesn't matter cause loot! But he's such a good guy because this one sentence says he is! And he's so cool and always wins! And he can't die even though it really hurts! Oh also he slays so much puss. And is totally not myself that I wrote into the story. - the author probably

Besides having the most hated protagonist in literature, the story follows the exact formula of the last 3 books to the letter. And each book is the same story arc repeated 3 times with a cliff hanger at the end. Compound that with plot armor so thick he may as well have a plot bunker and you have yourself some sloppy writing.

Other than random deux ex machinas randomly popping up as a writers convenience, the world is amazing. I love everything about it. That's why I'm so incredibly disappointed.

The final nail is the whole self proclaimed father of LITRPG is a little much when all your blogs, bios, and even story synopsis is an ad to go to the Facebook page so you can be told to buy more of his books.

Read the first book, make your own judgement call, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Psyched for the next one

I don't have much time to read these days so audio books are how I get my fix, and wow, these books took care of my fix. It's a couple weeks till the next audiobook in the series comes out and I can assure you that I will read the first four again before that time comes. 11/10 would recommend.

Such a fantastic production!

Would you listen to The Land: Catacombs again? Why?

I will absolutely listen to all of the books in this series again. It's tough to decide if you are going to do something new or something familiar sometimes, but with this series the production value makes it feel as epic of any of your favorite movies.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Land: Catacombs?

Crystal Garden

Have you listened to any of Nick Podehl’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have only listened to Nick Podehl's performances from this series.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The King of LitRPG's story The Land

Wonderful!

Another splendid work by Aleron! This book involved more "house keeping" than the previous books and therefore had slight lulls in the action, I love the character development. Your not fooling anyone with the Elven builder's personality. It's Ron Swanson and I nearly died laughing when I figured it out. Keep them coming doc!

Chaos Seeds!

I dont watch my chapters and these end abruptly. Every. Freaking. Time! Probably because the story is fantastic and pulls you right in. The perfect blend of humor and gravity.

Can't wait to meet more Chaos Seeds!

Least favorite book in my favorite LitRPG series.

I enjoyed this performance and the characters (especially the Ron Swanson parody character) as I've enjoyed the previous three books, but for a few things.

1) The title suggested the character would be plumbing the depths of The Catacombs...but never did. He mentioned wanting to go there...and then changed his mind. Wtf clickbait title?

2) Nothing from the overarching storyline was progressed or resolved. Literally nothing. All problem solved we're problems artificially introduced within this book itself, as we're all goals furthered only made goals within this book. Goals, storylines, quests, and character development started in earlier books were totally absent.

3) This book saw genital humor replace almost all other humor, and focused more on pop culture references and vulgarity to carry the dialogue, which was very disappointing.

All that said, I'm still invested and just hope hings get back on track with subsequent books. I really love the world and want to see more of it. I'm just disappointed hat this book felt like a "filler episode".

would not recommend...

This is the fourth book and it's all the same.
It's like the main character is a cult leader.
does not learn. Just repeats over and over.

The back store is sort of ok. I wanted it to be good but same old same old.

I felt sorry for the town's people that had to put up with the main character.

Fun and amusing adventures.

I am not usually one for review writing but I find this series a fun romp around this new world and thought I should share.
There is lightness to the adventure but also some good introspective questioning that I feel may play out more as the story continues. I am looking forward to the next few books being put on Audible.

the land

once again the father of this genre has knocked it out of the park with this book it's just a shame that we could not clone him because due to the laws of physics it will always be that we are able to read his work faster than he can write it but I for one would not have this any other way because if he was knocking them out too quick then I think it would affect the quality and I would not want to jeopardize that in any way excellent book

Amazing writing and superb ready!!!

Love the books love the growth of the characters but why do name the books if they are already numbered... more so if the tittle doesn't come true on the book!!! still love the you develop the story with going to big and crazy... Absolutely love your books and the amazing work that's Nick is doing with the audio books!!!!!

Another!

Any additional comments?

Compared to books 1-3 I would call this the most boring book so far. But its still and amazing book! Only reason i would call it boring is because it feel like not much happens compared to earlier books. Its the longest book but it feels short. BUT the story is still interesting and keeps you wanting more! I would really wish that book 5 would be released very soon as i tried other litrpg audiobooks and non can compare so far to The Land!

better and better

loved the book and story, as a fan of mmorpg I can enjoy imaging playing the game as the story unfolds.

The audio for this books makes it so much better tho, it's a perfect partnership for the two to make an amazing experience.

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Saturation

I'm not that sure why I continued with these books. the first was okay but after that it's just a series of dungeon crawls with the main character finding a new remarkable magical item or resource at every turn and then everyone else being amazed by the find. It never feels like anything gets resolved and with every amazing item all the rest of his amazing items are a bit less amazing. It's an over saturation of magical items.

However my real issue is that the story gets nowhere fast, there always seems another distraction and anything which seems important other characters do while you follow around the main character who is almost unendingly in a dungeon accomplishing nothing narrative wise.
