Publisher's Summary

The power of the element bonds flows through the lands of Terndahl. Shapers can control that power and use it.

With the threat of rogue elementals escaping from the element bond and fear of another attack by the Draasin Lord, life at the edge of Terndahl is difficult for Tolan. Without any magic of his own, he spends his days working a menial job as a carpenter’s apprentice. When an elemental attack draws the attention of the Inquisitors from the Academy, everything changes.

A mistake brings Tolan into the Terenhall Academy, a prestigious training ground for powerful shapers, but it’s a world where he doesn’t belong. Unlike his classmates, he can’t control the magic of the element bonds.

With no shaping ability, Tolan must find the fire within himself to succeed. If he can't, he'll not only be forced to leave the Academy, but the dangerous Draasin Lord might gain the very power he's long sought.

This box set contains the first three books of the best-selling Elemental Academy series:

  • The Fire Within
  • The Earth Awakens
  • The Water Ruptures

Well written, well performed, but MC never changes

This is a well produced book! For one credit 3 books is a great deal. Nothing surface level will bother you.

The MC starts a bit daft, as is totally normal, but over three full books worth of writing, he stays almost as daft as he started. He doesn't grow as a character. It's like he exists in a parallel timeline where the plot never happened and he's still on day one of his journey. He will lie about something in book 1 for little reason, and then still be lying about it 30 hours later. He doesn't openly discuss anything with anyone ever.

Slow or stupid MCs don't bother me. He just never changes or grows. It's frustrating. And it's such a good book apart from this serious flaw. Give it a shot! It's worth the price of admission. The first book you won't even be mad at the MC. It's not until he's the same in book3 that I just stopped caring about him.

Good listen

I enjoyed this book. Its worth listening too, especially as a box set. I am happy I found it. Its hard to find good fantasy book, heck its hard to find decent fantasy books. I'm happy I went with this.

Excellent

Really enjoyed, and I wish the last two books would release soon. I tried to slow down listening and hopefully give more time for the books to release but I couldn't! I can see a movie series made from these very easily. Keep it going Mr. Holmberg!

The main character is terrible...

The performance is good, Pirhalla does his best at recovering an almost irredeemable story. The plot of this story is interesting but follows the Harry Potter formula poorly (Main character who doesn't know his potential, 2 close friends one of which is a highly intelligent female and a powerful older man as headmast... I mean Grand Master of the school.)

My first gripe with these books now having listened to all three is the main character and his utter lack of development despite his progression towards understanding and gaining power. His constant doubt and complete lack of faith or confidence in his abilities is almost depressing. Every page has at least one line with the main character lamenting his abilities.

My second gripe and possibly the worst transgression is these stories is the repetition of words. Its incredibly annoying. Let me give you a taste. "shape shaper shaping shape shape shape shapers-path shape shape shape shaping shape shape shapedy, shape shape shaper shaping shapers-path shapers-path shaping bondar shape bondar shape bondar shape bondar bondar bondar shaping bondar bondar shaper bondar bondar bondar bondar bondar bondar bondar bondar shaping shape shape shape shaping Drazen-lord shaping shaping bondar bondar bondar."

And that might just be page one. Seriously if Shape, Shaping, Shaper, Shapers-path, Furious and Bondar were removed 3/4 of the text would be gone that's how bad it is....

Great stories

I enjoy D.K Holmberg’s other novels and this series had me not wanting to stop. I would highly suggest this series.
