Publisher's summary

The world as we knew it is gone. Food and water are poison. Learn the new rules or die trying.

Eli "Nacho" Naches is a fearsome assassin who has lost everything in a post-apocalyptic world full of monstrous creatures. He knows where he fits in this horror show, and he’s only been hanging around to see what’s going to be thrown at him next. When he’s finally put in chains and sent to the chopping block, he goes readily...only to be unexpectedly sent back in time to his younger body with his memories intact and the chance to make a difference.

But Nacho isn’t interested in saving the world. He just needs to save the people who matter to him and give them a chance to survive in a world where everything but the air itself is poison. Knowing that all their lives are on the line, Nacho the battle-scarred killer needs to get his college-age friends to listen to him, plan their builds, and secure a safe location to bunker down. Obviously, each of those goals is an epic quest all on its own.

Welcome to the Juxtaposition. May your future be delicious.

Great premise! Already pre-ordered the series!!

Some great twists in this LitRPG, different energy/magic system, characters that hook you in quickly. The details lend to a more “real” type of apocalypse. I’ve already pre-ordered the full series. Great work by the DM (Dakota)!

MC is Brain Damaged

MC is apparently Brain Damaged, Tramatized, gamer geek who really really can't plan to save his friends or himself... Warm and fuzzy about eating people... Yum Yum! packed peanuts and raisins to the end of the world and not Hypercompressed peccamen.... Bought army surplus fatigues and not full melee body armor. Knife and camp Hatchet not High Carbon Weapons oh and a shield would have been nice So busy Being stuck in game mode that just can't hear the game messages... cause he is so smart and has it all figured out. This book really needed to be run through a writing group couple of times.

Unique take to the LitRPG genre!

Food is going to kill you! You need some nacho cheese to save you! This was a nice take on the litRPG genre. Nacho is a bit whiny until he accepts that he needs to level also. The corny food names for his friends it a bit overdone, especially once the dinner party is formed.

All and all a good listen! Looking forward to the next book

Oh the Delicious Puns!

This book is filled with more food puns than I could count but what truly makes it spectacular is the way they seamlessly integrate into a rich world and story. The author has manages to create a harsh world that would be truly horrific if not for the characters he has places within it. The balance between desperate circumstances and hopeful events is sublime.

Fun, intriguing, and unique.

LitRPG counted a missile different. Like a regional fusion emulsion of many flavors that manage to work together to create something fun and filling. Nicely done Mr. Krout!

Practice makes better

You can truly tell how much practice Dakota has at kneading a story until it is smoothly incorporated. Nacho had a taste of what could have been, getting free practice in order to make things better and the result is quite satiating.
You could say the narrating just hits the spot. The team at audible do have quite a bit of practice after all!

Awesome Concept, Punny Puns

There are a some amazing concepts in this book! Both the cooking dimension and the MC’s unique path to knowledge were really interesting. I haven’t read many books where I was so invested in the growth of more than one character. As a foodie, some of the early food fails hurt my heart. I was also surprised that I was so invested in the MCs cooking progression. I can’t wait to see where this series goes!
